  • Mk V 2006 turbo Jetta - EPC Dash Light

    Hi guys,
I have a little bit of a baffling one for all you smart cookies out there. A couple of days ago the EPC light came up on the dash. I took it to my local german mechanic and it has him a little stumped. It is fine when cold, but once up to operating temperature, the light comes on. He did this on a test drive. He then cleared the code with his machine, and then only got about another 200m down the road before it came on again. It is something to do with a throttle code but why would the temperature have anything to do with it. We actually had the whole peddle assembly replaced literally three years ago so it seems a little bit weird that it has broken. Anyone had a similar issue, and if you did, how did you fix it because it is really starting to dent my confidence with VW's and i don't want to feel like that. I'm sure we'll find a solution, but at what cost to my back pocket? To make matters worse, it is the new baby transport so it has to be reliable. Please help

Wont be one that can be diagnosed over the net mate, you might get heaps of ideas but it needs to have the ecu checked especially when its faulting so the code can be verified and what it relates to, EPC is electronic power control and can be anything, early 2.0Turbos ive found corrupted ECUs, I know of at least 3 ive done ECUs on now and they have been back for a couple of services with no issues

Seen it where the throttle code relates to both the valve and pedal, had to replace both and rewire the electrical circuit to stop the fault reoccurring.

Thanks jmac, I appreciate the response. Roughly how much am I looking at to fix? Is it literally just a new ecu?
Gti4me, are we talking alot of rewiring here?

You need to run replacement wiring from the throttle valve to engine ecu, and throttle pedal to ecu as well, this was the most cost effective fix we came across, and it solved the problem. There is a fair length of wiring involved, but without actually seeing the car I couldn't commit 100% that this is the fix you require.

Well further to my problem, the issue has fixed itself, for the moment! My mechanic spent hours looking into it and driving the car. In the end he just was pulling the wiring harness off various components to check the connections but there was nothing obvious. Once he did this, the code hasn't raised its head again, go figure. So at the moment, it is a waiting game to see if it happens again but its smooth driving! Thanks for the advice people.
