  • R32'ers watch out!

I heard a story recently that all R32 owners need to hear.

A lady in Sydney recently had her new R32 stolen at gunpoint. She answered a knock at her door and found two men; one had a shotgun pointing at her. They asked for the keys to her R32. While one went and checked she gave them the right keys the other stayed with her with the shotgun pointed at her the whole time. After they left she called the police. Don't know if she got her car back but the Police Officer said the R32 is now the "getaway car of choice" and thus in demand.

So be careful with who ever takes an interst in your R32, GTI owners should probably also take note.

If i needed a getaway car, i'd probably go for an M3 or a GTR skyline. Why an R32?

                Definitely NOT BS.

If I remember rightly the story appeared in The North Shore Times last week. My wife read it first and brought it to my attention.

These things are so common these days they are lucky to get even a small mention in the major newspapers anymore.

‘Jester Fu’, thanks for that. Your insinuation is most unappreciated. If you are serious about learning more might I suggest you contact the company ‘Media Monitors’ and ask them to do a search.

The info I passed on came from my mother-in-law who heard it from a friend of the victim. As a VW owner I felt it important that other VW owners, particularly R32 and GTI owners learn about this as the Police Officer’s comment was rather frightening. Forewarned is forearmed.

For the others, some may recall that not too long ago the get away car of choice was the WRX. People where being held up in similar fashions for their WRX. I understand that Subaru however, tightened up the car’s security. If anyone here doubts the Mk V R32’s ability to evade pursuit by a Police XR8 or SS then I suggest you may want to find another car forum to contribute to.

As to the suggestion that an M3 would make a better car get away car think of this; a two door car being used by four blokes in a smash and grab is a bit silly as two of them have to wait for the others to fold the seats down so they can get in and out.

                  Peace.

So it's unlikely the TDI I am picking up this week would be hijacked?
Don't they come with a built in smoke screen?

Poor woman, she's going to suffer post traumatic stress.
Makes you think, why would you open the door to two blokes without
                      knowing they are there.
We tell our kids not to open the door to anyone yet what do we do?
Also, sends a message to everyone, if you happen to have a garage, use it.
At least the R32 was insured?

Welcome to the internet; 99% of it is either porn or bull****. So, you'll have to excuse me if i'm not willing to take your web posted hearsay as fact when *i* can't locate any information to support it and the story sounds remarkably like a whole bunch of other fake stories that get around by both email and on web forums.

Settle down, princess, and be prepared to back your lip service up with some facts.
