Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Vacuum leaks somewhere?

After install BSH PCV revamp kit today, I was still getting a vacuum leak somewhere, so commenced checking all the vacuum hoses again. So the first hose I checked looked ok, proceeded to check that the ends were snug on the barbs.
Lo and behold!!! both end were cracked...see pics.

    Looks OK

Luckily had a piece of vacuum hose in a box of junk that fitted perfectly.

I might order order the whole assembly from dealer if its not too pricey and replace it. The valve is ok, its just the hoses are looking a bit brittle. I replaced the cam follower so lucky I didn't break anything else around it with the removal of the fuel pump.

Always good to replace them (if price persists ofcourse) nothing wrong with simple cost effective 'preventative' maintenance (Y)
