Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

South Yarra took it upon themselves to do a 15,000 k service on my GTi when I had 7,000 on the clock - all I wanted was an oil change $360 later and a dirty big grease mark on the drivers door and I will not be going back.

        1. I'd be taking it back and making them remove said grease spot.

        2. Was it a 12 month service, or just 7500km? If 12 months, a full service is recommended. Did you say "I only want oil changed" - i find it hard to believe they would go directly against a direct instruction.

am picking my jetta up from barloworld next thursday... but wont be going back to them for any servicing.. would rather take it to someone i can trust to work on the car and look after it. having said that i have NOT had ANY car serviced at GW barloworld so dont know if they are good or bad, just had experiences with another dealer who no longer gets our $$$$.

Had a small issue with my bluetooth and South Yarra Volkswagen repaired it without fuss. Totally professional and even gave me a loan car at very short notice. A mate of mine gets his car serviced there too and he cannot fault them.

All dealerships will have a few horror stories...i've had one at Barloworld during the testing/buying process after which I swore I would never give them any of my business. Totally incompetent!

I wish we had that luxury in Perth, we only have two dealerships & I've already used one of them up with the above philosophy.

                  Only one in Adelaide

Very hit and miss experience with them. Their Audi people are great, though their VW guys leave a bit to be desired.

                    Adelaide Dealer service

I would agree with Steve although he is perhaps even being a little too kind in my opinion (can't be sued for opinions!).

I have abandoned this group but am disappointed that VW Australia hasn't approved anyone else in SA so one is left to word of mouth and forums such as this.

Made the big mistake of taking the Golf to a non VW specialist. These guys name would suggest that they are professionals who repair cars but they were rubbish in my opinion. Did not seem to have any idea about diagnostics and basically just replaced bits one by one until thaey ran out of ideas.

I would be interested on hearing of any good experiences with VW service on the east side of town.

I know sales and service are two completely different parts of the dealership.

Why not find a local VW specialist? I did, and they're great - not too much $$, closer than a VW dealer's service place, very thorough, and very good. Nice people too If there's any warranty work that needs doing, take it to a VW dealer... but otherwise, why would you?
