  • What replacement tyres have you got? 2L TDI

Will be replacing the Golfs tyres within a month.

Its driven almost exclusively by SWMBO and sits on std 15" alloys.

What tyres have forum members gotten to replace their standard 195/65/15 issues and what have been their impressions?

Brand new set of tyres and alloys on ebay 15" for reasonably little money, in melbourne, worth a look.

      I like Yokohama.

last saturday I got a set of dunlop sport max, im more then happy with the tyres esp in the wet. I have got 17' Gti rims on my Tdi though and not 15's
I aslo quite like Michelin tyres as well, but a bit expensive, Yokohama advant's are also meant to be a good tyre,

There seem to be quite a few sets of wheels & tyres popping up from GT/GTI/R32, for a little bit more than the cost of a set of tyres u could most likely pick up a set of 17/18's with new tyres.
          currrently... MY10 GTI | DSG | Candy White | Sunroof | 18's | BT | MDI
previously... MY08 GT TDI | DSG | Reflex Silver | Sunroof

Thanks guys for the early recommendations.

Definately will be staying away from goodyears - 'if they only save you once...' what about getting you into trouble?

Being a renault devotee i'm usually leaning towards michelins.
Have had/have got Yokis - am a big fan of them, but i think they wouldn't work on such a heavy car as the diesel. The dunnydore wore a set out quicksmart.

Thus the questions - what a bout contis - PremiumContact2 any experiences?

Will look at wheel tyre combo's S/H and see what's available - dont really want to go 18/19" will probably lose ride comfort.

i have the sportcontact2's on my gt. they're not bad i'm not complaining since the car came with them but they're waaaaay overpriced. better off going for michelins if you wanna pay premium money.

Don't want to pay premium money (who does?).

Am after 'upper middle' range of tyre if you understand what i mean.

What i'm after is responses from people who have fitted other tyres (got to admit don't want KHUMO's) and their thoughts on the purchases.

I have put on Pirelli Dragons - 205/60-15 on the original wheel of my 2TDi.

As far as I can recall, rolling diameter is reduced by a bit less than 2%, which means that the speedo is over reading by a bit less that 2% - bugger all really. (Oh, and wait - that's right, I got 6 gears )

I fully recommend them!!! Great in the wet, strong when dry and very little noise. They've got 15k on them at the moment and are wearing very well. Bucket loads of tread and the side wall is still very stiff for great cornering (for 15 inch wheels )

I will definitely get another set of these for the MkV, and maybe even the MkI is I get around to finding a set of 15s for it.

                      Anyway, just my 2c
