  • TDI starting problem

    Hi all.

I have recently brought a 05 Mk5 1.9 tdi Golf. One owner, 280ks always serviced. Absolutely love it so are now selling my petrol model (black, 2.0 FSI 94ks if anyone wants it) in favour of the diesel.

Only problem is, hot or cold, that it takes abit to start. Most diesels, like my hiace van, will start first turn. The golf will turn 5,6,7 8 times before starting. The battery is good so no problem there. Im hoping its just the glow plugs but then it would start more easily once hot wouldn't it?

Its booked in next week at a local diesel injection place put any input before then would be great so I can start researching/saving for parts. Thank you.

Battery needs enough grunt in it to spin the motor to at least 280rpm before it'll fire.

If the battery's good, it's possibly the starter motor.

Seems to turn over pretty quick. Is there any way to test this????
Hopefully its not injector pump or something $$ Thank you.

the 280rpm test is done with a VCDS tester with the injectors disconnected....it might also have a camshaft sensor fault as this causes similar issues especially if its turning over fast....need to get your fault codes checked mate and start from there.....VDUB...
