  • Mk5 Golf GTI and Jetta TFSI (or FSI) Exhaust - Interchangeable?

    Hi all,

I've got a question and I hope this is the right area to post it as I don't come on here very often.

My Jetta TFSI ('06 model) came with a 3" modified exhaust and the missus has been complaining about the drone from day 1. Now that we've got a little one along the way I thought I'd call around to see what I can do about it. I've only been to 1 exhaust shop so far and they've basically said that I'll need to put in a whole new system (2") to drop the drone sound back to stock. I don't really believe this is the best course of action at the moment as it seems quite exxy. I've tried asking some wreckers for a standard Jetta TFSI exhaust but none seem to have any in stock.

I'm just wondering, maybe I can find another stock exhaust from a different model? So, to answer this:

    1. Is the Jetta TFSI and FSI exhaust interchangeable (catback)?
    2. Is the Jetta TFSI and Golf GTI interchangeable?

Otherwise, I'm just wondering if there's an easy and cheaper option to try to bring the drone down so that there's no complaints. So far the cheapest option I can think of is for her to wear earplugs but I don't think this will cut it . Also I don't think it would be worth spending heaps of cash on a car that's getting on in age.

    Appreciate any help.

(Perhaps somebody out there wants to swap exhausts???)

    Cheers!

I havent had any experience with the non turbo models to be certain sorry.
Have you tried calling your local APR dealer? As they do a reasonable turnover they may have something kicking about from a customer that has recently upgraded

Good idea. I'm going to Muller and Muller for a service soon so I might give them a ring.

as Tim as has already said - the exhaust on the jetta is different to that on a golf.
              downpipe is the same.
              catback is different.

the apr exhaust on mine is designed for a mk5 jetta. perfect fit, no cutting, bending or welding.
if i still had my stock exhaust, i could've given that to you - as it would fit just fine.

maybe u can find some other stock octavia rs exhaut's lying around for sale?!?!

Oh cool thanks for that. Bummer about the stock exhaust! That would've saved me a world of pain right now

I didn't realise that the Octavia RS exhaust would fit too. I'll keep an eye out for it!

does the system have a resonator, if not, they are usually installed to reduce the drone, especially in auto's

The first shop I went to said that for the money to put on a resonator I might as well swap out the whole catback exhaust. I think this is BS so I'm going to another shop to find out.

I'm actually trying to determine the exact stock exhaust system OD size for the Jetta TFSI/Golf GTI just in case, but I haven't been successful yet.

BS to me too, a resonator is just a small straight thru muffler, you could almost cut a section of the pipe yourself and clamp one in if you have the facilities.
