  • Override for GTI A/C recirc?

As most of you have probably noticed, the MKV's climate control has a bit of interesting logic set up for the recirc function. If you have it set with the recirc on, it will revert to fresh if the ignition has been off for about ½ an hour or longer. If the ignition has been off for a few minutes, it'll stay in recirc. Does anyone know if there's a way to override this so it always stays in recirc, with the only time it'll go into fresh is when you manually hit the recirc button? Can you make changes in the climate ECU with VAG-COM? I've just seen Fuzion's GB for the V-Checker, so I'm hoping I can make some changes with our GTI's climate logic.

I'm not quite sure why anybody would want to leave the system in recirculation mode permanently. Recirc's main function is to prevent fumes and smoke etc from entering the cabin. A secondry function is to pull the temp up or down quickly, but in either case, it should only need a couple of minutes.

This practice also has dangers. No fesh air is entering the cabin, so levels of CO2 are increasing all the time, posing the danger of drowsiness or worse. The handbook warns about this.

If, for some reason, you have a need to drive like this, then surely it's a simple matter just to hit the button again.

    Cheers

Mate, I didn't ask to be lectured about how I should operate my climate control. And, duhhh... I know what its function is used for! I choose to keep it in recirc mode, because I prefer not to be breathing endless amounts of suburbia pollution from other vehicles and old smoky rustbucket sh_itboxes!

No lecture intended, sorry if it came across as that. I was merely repeating the warning given by VW.

That was not obvious from the question you asked.

If you'd posted that originally, I wouldn't have even been bothered to reply.
        Have a nice day, ...Mate.

Whilst it would be good if these things could also be changed with VAG COM i actually like the fact that it reverts back to fresh air.
          Neat feature i reckon.

In other words, you assumed it was not obvious...

I would have only expected a reply if you knew the answer to whether VAG-COM has the ability to change climate control firmware settings.

You have a nice day too.

I am not aware of a way to do this with vagcom. You can change other things relating to climate control (e.g. I changed the time that the rear demister stays on for) so yes, Vag Com can change things in the CC controller.

FWIW, IAW the others re leaving it in recirc all the time. Your car has an activated charcoal and pollen filter in the hvac system which should keep most of the yuk out although it's not perfect. If you run recirc all the time you can end up with a musty smell in the car.
