  • What size?

I am changing my oil & filter this w/end ( 1.9l) What size socket is the top of the oil filter housing? Do you need to fill the oil filter housing with oil ( like priming) ? Bazza

I think it depends on the size of your wang. If you've got a small wang, you'll need a larger socket. A large wang means a smaller socket. You may find the seating of the socket onto the nut a little less comfortable with a larger wang, though.

You're correct Tim, 36mm. There's also a SST for draining the oil out of the housing first, if you don't want to make a mess. The SST tool number is T40057 and is available from here. Actually, I just had a look and they now want $149.50 USD for the SST?!? The last time I looked, the tool was $79.50 USD. I'm not sure why the price of it has gone through the roof?

Also, you'll need a T25 Torx driver to remove the torx screws that hold the engine undercover in place.

EDIT: Ah sheet, I just realised you're talking about a 1.9D, my post above refers to a 2.0l TFSI, I guess they're the same?
