  • Sudden loss of power at higher speed and then all ok?

I've got a 2006 Golf GTI DSG with 122k km on the clock. I bought it almost 2 weeks ago.

On the first saturday I had it I was in a service station on the freeway and on my exit I tried the launch control. Worked perfectly up until around 140khp when the power dropped. It didn't die entirely, but it had a huge drop off. As it was my first proper drive in the car and not being familiar with it, I backed off and continued on home as normal. I thought the ESP kicked in or something.

Yesterday (a week later) I was cruising on the freeway again at 110kph behind a truck in the overtaking lane. When it pulled in I floored the car. The DSG dropped from 6th to 3rd and took off quickly reaching 160kph in 4th or 5th gear - but as soon as it got there the power dropped again. Same result....a huge drop off in power. Having already pulled back onto the driving lane I cruised on home at ~110kph as normal.

Have I got a diverter valve issue or do this sound like something else?

    Thanks for any help

Edit. No warning light have come up on the dash. The car was inspected by state roads before I bought it and it all came back clear except for the fault code of P0441. I've got a Purge Valve (part no. 06E906517A) on order. Maybe this is something related?

I'd say the new purge valve will fix it.

    It's a pretty common fault.

      Thanks dude.

This is my first VW/VAG motor and all this is really new to me. A mate recommended I also - as a precaution - replace the fuel pump cam follower as well as the diverter valve because they are easy as cheap. Worth doing?

have something similar and the only code ive had was a low fuel pressure code, I would accelerate quickly reach about 140 and just stop accelerating, I would be able to keep it at 140 but I couldn't push through and it would take a while before I could accelerate again, I was able to fix this with a new cam follower, they are pretty cheap to get about 90 for new one from dub addiction, wouldnt hurt to change it

Thanks for the reassurance.....I'm actually expecting delivery of the following items just to be sure!
          - Purge Valve (N80)
          - Diverter Valve (2.0T, Updated "D" Version)
          - Fuel Pump Cam Follower (2.0T)

The cam follower cost me $48.95 from partshaus.com. Will bookmark dub addiction for future reference.
