Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • and now I wait for four months.....

On Friday my much loved Mazda MX-5 SE (2004 Turbo model, the last of the NB series MX-5's) left for a new home with a nice young single woman who will give it due love and care. Unforutnately, it had to go as there is a junior me on the way and two seats don't cut it any more. IMHO it was one of the greatest and purest sports cars ever made.

Luckily, I found the perfect family friendly alternative, and ordered a Jetta 2.0 TFSI !!!!!

    Yay !

The car is being built by a whole heap of industrious Mexicans and some German robots in "week 12" (so, the middle of March). It will, by all accounts, arrive approximately at the same time as the baby

    What did I order?

A Jetta 2.0TFSI in Deep Black (after MUCH arguing with the wife, who insisted that Black was the only colour she would consider. I wanted White, but she is pregnant and therefore wins all arguments).

For the options list I ticked Bi-Xenons and Anthracite Leather.

Now I just have to settle in for a long wait until May / June.

I got it for a reasonable price ($46k drive away). Probobly could have done better, certainly could have done worse.

Welcome and congrats on your two new future arrivals.
At least with both due around the same time it might mean that you get one of them to yourself for a few days.

The black will look good and at least you can try the "you chose it so you wash it" approach.

This actually formed part of the "discussion" process

She has commited to "going to the car wash" every week, although it is the _waxing_ not the washing that worries me.

When it is clean it will look good though !

        hi there,

i was in the same boat and sold my 1989 MX5 (NA6) and ordered a GTI.

i resisted the change for sooooo long but in the end with the 2nd baby coming, 2 seats just won't be enough.

for the record, my baby (MX5 that is) went to a young uni girl and she seemed to be in love with it.

Congrats on the new ride! :O)

You should probably be just as (if not more) concerned for the washing of the car. Avoid using a chamois to dry the car. Black (far too easily) shows up the damage to the clear coat. (Swirl marks)

I usually leave my car paintwork wet after a wash to avoid damaging the clear coat. *yes - extremely anal*

I dry the windows and alloys and thats it!

I was extremely anal about the MX-5 (which had a fairly deep red pearl metalic paint lading to the same swirl issues). I used to just blot the water, rather than chamoising. That used to work quite well.

I am going to ensure there are a couple of coats of really good wax on the car soon after we pick it up, and we shall go from there.

I was looking forward to a nice easy run with a white car this time oh well !

I now have shipping details from Volkswagen (well, my stealer at least), although it doesn't seem to match with any of the transit routes from 2wglobal.com.

Do you think this is legitimate or I am being told furphies?

If it helps the Vessel's name is "Hume Hwy".

Although Jetta's are built in Mexico the ship may not leave from Mexico they may be transported to different country to come to Australia.

Forgot to add, the Stealer also added:

When I search for this on 2wglobal, I get a route via two different vessels that goes

Toyohashi -> Manzanillo -> Melbourne (the Vessel should come from Manzanillo in the first place).

The VW Australia ordering systems can have some very inaccurate/out of date information recorded on them. I have an Octavia RS wagon on order, and the VW systems were still not showing it as having been completed (ie finished build), two weeks after it had left Europe !

Get the VIN from your dealer and track it yourself on the WW shipping info site.

(don't worry if you get an error first time in to that page, just click on it again and it will probably work the second time).

I beleive this is a problem with trying to track Jetta shipments in general from reading through the forums?

If anyone has any tips I would appreciate it !

                              Mate,

As a proud Jetta owner (or leaser) for 1 week, I can say you're going to love the car. We "upgraded" from a 10+ year old Magna wagon, and the kids (9yo+6yo) think it's fantastic. There's so much boot space its not funny - and you'll need it with portacots, change tables and all the other baby gear you need when you travel

We originally were going to go with white, but then we were faced with a 4 month wait, or opting for the same package in Platinum Grey that was already on a ship. Having seen the white on the road and not being too fussed about it, I think the dark colours really complement the chrome work around the front. You won't be disappointed.

Can't say how you'd go about tracking it, but we were told ours would be available on 23rd April yet we got it on the 9th which was a great surprise.

                              Cheers,
