Good evening people,
I am going to try to word this issue as in depth and detailed as possible.
I've recently purchased a 08 Jetta MK5 2.0 FSI Tiptronic, upon purchasing the vehicle I've noticed that there's a loud "tttrrrrrrrrr" or rotor blade sound that comes out of the engine bay whenever I accelerate or rev. Pin drop silence when the car is idle.
My previous experience tells me it's the timing belt which requires to be replaced. My car currently sits at 81,000 kms and looking at the log book services, the previous owner has yet to change the timing belt because it's only due for a change at 90,000kms.
Being an automotive amateur, I can only assume that it's the timing belt but that's just my assumption. I've also had a major service at a workshop and the mechanic assured me that this is a very common sound for a FSI engine.
I am not exactly convinced by that statement because I don't think the sound coming off the engine bay should be that loud.
Can anyone shed some light regarding this issue or has anyone ever experienced the same issue?
Cheers.
