  • Pat on the back for my local dealer

Well Guys its a case of give credit where credit is due.................

I have a 2008 Golf GT Sport with 70403ks that is used mainly by the other half as a shopping trolley around town.........Geelong.

Anyways last Sunday my wife and my two daughters (one of my daughters was driving) were coming back in the dark early evening from a shopping expedition from the big smoke.....Melbourne and were in the RHS outer lane in heavy traffic near Lara approx 15ks from home when the engine just shut down and as they were in the RHS lane they were able to roll/coast the side of the road and quickly put on the emergency flashers.

Luckily my wife wasn't driving as she normally sits in the middle lane and one can only guess as to what the consequences may have been abruptly stopping in the middle lane of a 3 lane highway with the heavy traffic traveling at 100ks.

Anyways moving along..............I gets a call telling me this has occurred and they are sitting on the side of the highway wanting to know what they should do next.

I suggest they sit there for a minute with the ignition off and am hopping its a computer glitch that will reset it self and all will be Ok.

Anyway a minute or so later they turn the key and the car starts and they ring me and tell me they are on the way again and end up driving home with out further incident.

Next morning (Monday) I try to start the car as I want to take it to the Dealer/servicer (Rex Gorell) which is just down the road, but it won't start so I drive down to the Dealer in the T5 as I believe a 'face to face' is always better than a over the phone.

Accordingly I explain to the service people the 'incident' and whether it could be the 'injector issue' I had read about on this forum (oh and btw they are totally receptive to my plight and no ways dismissive) and they tell me that could be the case and until the car comes in and is hooked up to the diagnostics they cant confirm whatever.

They also inform me that VW has an 'active campaign' regarding the injector issue.

They also inform me that their booking in schedule is normally on a 2 week attention schedule but once the car is in their workshop they will do their best to fit it in any earlier.

So I organize with the RACV to pickup and drop off the car which is around about 10.30 by now.

Next day (Tuesday afternoon) I ring the Dealer touching base to see whether perchance they have had a chance to hook it up to the diagnostics and they tell me they have and that it needs 4x new injectors which they have ordered from Sydney and which they should have by Wednesday.

Yesterday (Thursday) morning I ring them again to see how things are going as the other half is suffering from housebounditess and they tell me the car will be ready for pickup by lunch time as they only need to reset the computer and do a test drive.

We go round to the Dealer (Rex Gorell) about 2 o'clock and the wife is all smiles when she sees they have even washed the car.

The Service staff tell us the parts fitted bill comes to $3500+ alone and provide us with a itemized service letterhead to attach to our service schedule booklet.

All at no cost to us.

We thank them for their speedy assistance and drive off into the sunset.

I know after reading some of the other members stories about their Dealership issues, we however have to heap nothing but praise upon Rex Gorell VW in Geelong and VW Australia in the speedy efficient manner they handled our situation.

    Well done Guys.

Not all dealers are bad 'money hungry sharks' some actually will go out of their way to help you.

The local VW dealer over here will attempt goodwill for customers if they car is obviously not over 3 years out of warranty and if the parts and labour costs exceed $500+.
