RCD510 Install 2005 MKV GTI

Dear All

I am wanting to install a RCD 510 in my 2005 MKV GTI - I have the following questions and maybe someone who has gone through the process can help me.

1. Is this a Genuine RCD510 or fake? They talk about multiple versions being out there and this one being the best?

2. Do I need to update my CAN-Gateway and how much will this likely cost?
- I have a current VCDS Scan output from my car, what info do you guys need to determine that?

3. Is it hard to install and could I do it myself? (Either whole thing inc. CAN if necessary or just RCD510 if CAN isnt required)

4. What sort of reprogramming would be required for the CAN Gateway and who in VIC can do that?

1 - that would be a real RCD510

2 - yes, your car is below the late 2007 marker where it was fixed, so you will need the CAN gateway, cost not too sure...I think mine cost $80 - $100 for the part

3 - RCD510 install is quite easy, CAN gateway is a real pain

4 - From when we did it to mine, you need to tick all the boxes for the options on your car, if you go through the CAN gateway section of the VCDS program, there will be a heap of options that can be ticked, making a note of those would be a good idea

1 - There are versions made by different manufacturers, the one by Bosch, which the guy is selling is the better version because it talks to the newer versions of the Bluetooth units for the VW's, as it says in the listing

2 - You should be able to find them on ebay, or keep an eye out on the forums here in the "Parts for Sale" section, sometimes things come up

3 - Unless you feel like spending time taking apart your car's interior finding someone to help or do it for you would be advisable, check this thread for people who can help with the install - http://www.vwwatercooled.com/forums/...elp-27504.html

4 - the CAN gateway needs to be programmed before anything will work, as it is one of the brain peices of your electronic systems in the car. I would not suggest driving it until it has been reprogrammed

Could someone please advise me what CAN gateway I need to purchase?

I have looked on eBay and there seem to be all different types... Ones ending in P others in Q and N ... which one is it?

Whilst it is a Bosch and is the best make this one does not have the 26 pin socket for a RVC should you wish to install one

Thanks - Not planning to install a reverse camera because it seems like a lot of work to run the cabling and quite expensive. Does that mean that all the VW's that have a RVC get the Delphi model and all other cars get the Bosch models?

This one does but its a Delphi. Look at the yellow socket on the rear in the pic

Just make sure you buy a European version as the radio frequencies are different in a USA version and dont work here

I've just found out that you can get a Bosch RCD510 with RVC, the later models - But I might still give this a skip since I wont use RVC. I have found out that I need to get one ending in 190A, can anyone confirm this?

I bought the Delphi one from the eBay guy, also bought the can bus through him and a USB outlet for the centre console. Very happy with the result however fully recommend you set the air control to feet before pulling anything apart just in case a clip falls down behind dash. I lost my vent side clip.
