What is the standard trim in GT sport?

Hello everyone, ive just joined up today and been having a look thru the forums, heaps of info there to get me going, esp like the tip for using the climate control as an accurate speedo, i had noticed it being a bit off yesterday so now i can train my brain as to what i am really doing.


Anyway back to the question, ive had my car (GT Sport TDI) just over a week now and 1200km odd of fun so far, looking at the delivery docket on my car it was built august, complianced late november and i picked it up 25th january. No dramas there, id have preferred a built in 08 car but it didnt fit with my timeframe and am pretty glad to have the car now. THe 2 thing i have picked up on that i want clarification on though are the badging, On the tailgate i have only got GOLF TDI (all silver) where the other GT's i have seen have got GOLF 2.0 TDI with a red "i" on them. Its not a major concern though as i have already ordered the red "di" badge from the UK as i reckon that one looks a bit better anyway and the dealer has offered to change it if i want. I know its defo the 125kw engine by the way it goes, its just weird the badging doesnt match.

The other thing, i was pretty certain when i test drove the GT that they had aluminum pedals and ive got rubber ones, not sure if they are extra or what can anyone shed a bit of light?

i've got rubber pedals... as for the badges i wouldnt know, still have to pick them up from the dealer cuz i asked for them to be taken off and they "forgot" to give me them. but afaik the i is meant to be red.

looks better with a bare ass imo

Yeah, i had thought of debadging too, i like the Badges with the red in them though, i was contemplating removing the golf one though. should have it this week so ill see how it all looks.

WOuldnt mind the pedals, cant seem to find any on ebay or the usual places

Confusion Indeed. I saw a multivan yester with a red "TDI" on it, thought it was bit too much, im happy to go with just the DI, will take some photos when i get it on, hopefully later in the week.

Thanks for the pedals link, might just have to do that i think. $150 isnt too bad delivered.

Yeah, that seems to be the standard, weird that mine hasnt got it. i guess it fools some people who see it and think its the tamer version.

Our Golf GT Sport TSI has red lettering on SI and we got metal pedals all standard

That could be it, i defo remember metal pedals in 1 or more of the cars i drove.

I was told the red 'i' on the badging denoted that the engine was a turbo. apparently the 2.0 FSi and 2.0 Turbo FSi are differentiated this way. But here is the thing, I just recently got a jetta with the turbo FSi engine.....my badging however says TSi. Figure that one out. My thinking says (and this is pure speculation) the FSi engine may be being phased out and being replaced with TSi.

technically all the mk5 petrol engines are fsi. just the tfsi is turbo and the tsi is twin charged fsi. just to confuse the nomenclature

Please dont tell me it doesnt look straight, i left the original "T" on there and used it to align the new "DI"

2 Seconds with some fishing wire got the old ones off and a damp cloth removed the glue.

Nice cheap mod.

Now i need to get rid of the number plate holders, as i got my plates after the car (15 mins) i picked it up with full size plates on it, with the 4 screws drilled into the bumper to go with it, anyone got any suggestions to get rid of them without leaving nasty holes in my bumpers.

PS as i was waiting for them to pit plates on so i could leave the thought did cross my mind to get them not to drill holes. hindsight is wonderful....
