  • A Quick Poll

The odds must be slim but it was only a matter of time. Being my first experience, I wasn't happy.

Drove into work, and heard a "clink clink" noise from the tyres as they spun around. Thought it was just a stone stuck in between a groove.

But no, it was a bolt, probably about the size of my thumb, lodged straight into my somewhat new Falkens that have done 4000km.

I whacked on the spare tyre, which resembled my bmx bike when I was 8 yrs old, or something off a 1990 Daihatsu Charade!

BTW, the spare has a max speed rating of 80kmph!!! Thankfully, I had no highway driving to get home.

Getting the car sent in today to get fixed, but a quick poll...

How many dubbers out there have ever had a bolt (or foreign object) lodged in your tyre?

ha! you should be asking.. HOW MANY TIMES!

low profile tyres dont have the ability to repel bolts/nails as much as higher profile tyres.....so you will find we suffer alot more than your average joe blow motorist.

A high profile doesn't save you - had one the other day, a 1" bolt through my LT245/75-R16.

Couldn't have found a 3/4" bolt, which wouldn't have gone through, it had to be 1"

Pretty easy fix, though, just had a plug put in and a re-balance and all is good. Too old now to let these things cause stress

ran over a 350mm long screwdriver and that was completely buried right up to the end of the handle.

Goodyear also offer tyre insurance for $7 a tyre, so got a new one out of that

great to know. my first time with a car with low profile tyres... always learn something new.

thanks for all your responses, glad to see that i'm not the odd one out.

ended up costing $29 at beurepaires to get it fixed up.

I have a quick question and think theis thread might be the best place for the answer.
                Car MY07 GTI

In the manual there are a number of tools listed in the picture for changing the wheels. (Book 3.2 p78 for referance) I can locate 1, 2, 3, 5 and 6, but not 4 (wire hoook for pulling off the centre cover and wheel bolt caps). Is this correct or should I be contacting the dealer with a please explain?

The hook should be there and it was one of the things the dealer went through with me on delivery, like the bottle openner - things that regularly go missing are sometimes kept seperately and put in the car for delivery only....

I lost a bolt the other day in my garage, then went to drop my car to seb and it didnt take many 'clunk clunk clunk clunk's to realise it was in my tyre

On the bright side.. atleast I found the bolt.
