Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Airbag removal and fitting question (Fitting R32 steering wheel)

I recently bought an R32 steering wheel to fit to my MKV TDI.
I have found all the information on removal and fitment but there is one answer I need before I fit it.
When you remove and refit the airbag does it bring up the airbag error light on instrument cluster?
    Thanks, Andy

Couldn't what for an answer so I just did it.
Airbag and ESP light come on but the airbag light went out as soon as the car moved
and once I was moving I pressed the ESP button and it went out.
    Only a 5min job.
All I need now is to get it coded for the paddles.

Lol, you just couldn't wait!! If you had put the ignition on when you had the airbag removed then yes you would have logged a fault. But looks like you had it off all the time... looks good, where did you get it? I'm on the look out for a R32 or GTI wheel with paddles..VDUB..

Bloke listed it on eBay a couple of weeks ago and I contacted him as soon as he listed it and asked him what he wanted for it.
Got it for $350 which was cheaper than the last one I saw on there, it went for $421.
He has this >R32 on eBay and is a pretty nice bloke.

Keep an eye on JJAutoparts, GMSSpares and SGS Parts Plus as they wreck a few Golfs.

You can also look on vortex. I got a MkV GLI wheel for my Jetta for $320 delivered. They have a larger market so might be worth a look.
