  • 07 TFSI - DSG crunch, using 3-4L of oil every 10k

So my 07 Jetta TFSI (2.0T) is in for its 6yr service today. Only done 35k.

At the last service (5yr) I reported a DSG crunch (when you downshift from 3rd to 2nd) that occurs occasionally. They reset the DSG but it made no difference. It's also using 3-4L of oil every 10k.

I'm not expecting much out of the service centre again today, they'll probably just fob me off again. I know the oil consumption is a known issue, however the DSG crunch has me concerned. It's a real metal on metal crunch. It only started after the DSG scheduled service ...

I don't really want to get rid of it as its a great car otherwise and with such low kms theoretically has many years left in it.

Just after some guidance on the DSG issue. It's not gotten appreciably worse over the last year (which is why I haven't made a special trip to the dealer) and only happens when driven spiritedly in manual mode. I'm trying to work out how enthusiastically I should pursue it with the dealer (6yr extd factory warranty lapses in a few weeks).

We have just started to see some Syncromesh rings starting to wear out. If it is only in one change, then that's more than likely the issue.

See how you go with warranty, if you don't do any good, come & see us.

Thanks Guy. Yes its only on that particular shift. It is of course the one that does get used the most under spirited driving but the low kms and inconsistent occurence had me wondering. I'll see what the dealer says.

Its an intermittent fault unfortunately. I could drive the tech all day and it may not do it.

Dion - def get it at least documented whilst under warranty, as this will increase your chances of a warranty or good will claim (provided some people don't go and ruin that for us)

As expected the dealer didn't do much, have to take it back for another full day of diagnostics.
