  • Engine Emission malfunction

    Hi,

My first post here so be gentle

I bought a Golf Mk 5 Pacific 2.0 TDI DSG 2008 (128k kms) around a month ago. The car has been meticulously maintained - following service schedule and no expense spared in maintenance, it looks and drives immaculately.

Overall I have been very impressed although I had a coolant leak in the first week which turned out to be a split hose caused by the engine cover rubbing against it when the engine was moving in its mountings.

I now have the orange 'engine emissions malfunction' light on.

From searching online I can see this can be due to a number of things - fuel filler cap, EGR etc.

We tend to drive short distances - my wife uses the car mainly to go to the gym and pick up the kids - so most journeys are less than 5km.

My question is whether this model of Golf had the DPF fitted and whether this could cause the Emission light to illuminate?

I realise that our driving profile is not ideal for a DPF fitted vehicle, to be honest I had no idea what a DPF was until recently.

Other than that, am I right in thinking I am OK to drive the car with the light on - I was planning to take the car on a long run to hopefully 'blow away the cobwebs' - is this a reasonable thing to try?

    Any help much appreciated!

Take a photo of the engine bay , we can then determine if it has DPF fitted or not , but I think that 2008 Golfs didnt have it fitted .
