  • should I wait???

    Hi there!
I'm a newbie and need some advice so i hope the experienced vee dubbers can help me out.

I currently drive my dad's golf mk5 fsi and when his lease ends he is going to hand me over the keys.
I'm thinking of selling or trading it in for a gti.
The question is whether i should wait for the lease to end in september-ish or end it early?

If i wait until the lease is over i was thinking that i might as well wait for the mk6 gti which is out early 09 (if i am correct?) rather than opt for a mk5 gti if i end it early.

What are people's thoughts out there?

    Thanks

It's a hard one...I also considered waiting for the MK6...but then I figured I could get hit by a truck tomorrow and not get to drive it...so thought, bugger it. It all depends on how patient you are. Remember even if the MK6 comes out early `09, how long will it be before Aus starts getting some...and how long will the waiting list be?

The thing is many of us love our cars for what they are, rather than what resale value they'll give us. You could wait until whenever for a Mark VI, but if you love a GTI Mark V, not only would there be a cost benefit vs a Mark VI but you could have something you may enjoy for a very long time. The evidence is shown in all our threads regarding our cars, not just Mark V's but all others, even the older ones. You know Scarlett Johansson is good looking, why wait and see until her little sister comes on the scene??? That's Burtybear logic for ya n:

Also note that if the MkVI comes out in '09, the GTI usually comes out a year after that, and the r32 will be a year after the GTI...

vw will be cutting costs on the new one. the current model is too costly for them to keep makign hence they're ending it early. whether or not such cost cutting will effect the product well thats anyone's guess. besides my guess would be there wouldnt be a power increase on the mkvi and the mkv looks great its a great car so if i was you id say hell why not

i would be shocked if there isn't any power increase. but a ECU flash will fix that.

the new gen tdi's (common rail) are keeping identical power specs.

Yeh thats a good point how you say that it'll prolly be the end of '09 beginning of '10 until the mk6 gti arrives in adelaide, not to mention the waiting list.
Looks like im gonna wait until the lease expires and then sell for a mk5 gti.
Until then...should i mod my fsi?

yeah but i thought we're talking about GTI here.

when E30 has more horse, i would be shocked if Mk6 GTI isn't at least matches that.
