  • Just missed out on a great GT DSG - help!

Just missed out on this for $19,000 by 15 minutes...

    2008 Volkswagen Golf V GT Sport MY08 Direct-Shift Gearbox

Twist is, the guy who bought it works with me. Neither of us had any idea the other was hunting for a car.

Can't find any other options that are comparable. This car was in PERFECT condition.

If anyone knows/sees anything else around that might be comparable would love to hear from you.

Can't believe how shattered I am haha!

Geez, certainly didn't think there was a shortage of DSG GT's! Manuals yes but there's heaps of the DSG's out there. What made this one so perfect?

            Diesel or Petrol?
There was a bloke up the road trying to sell a TR GT for ages, is still there as far as I know, I can have a wander up this arvo and see if he sold it, think he took it off the market. If still available I'll pm you. I don't think it is any of the listed ones as it had a sunroof (and 90% sure leather too).

That car (unless I was looking at the wrong one) seemed to have leather as the only factory option with the sat nav as a later fitment. GT Sports also had sunroof, xenon lights and reverse parking sensors as factory options.

Yeah I'm struggling to see what $9000 options the car has. All I can see is leather and SatNat. Don't remember reverse sensors being an option when I bought mine - pretty sure it was a dealer option rather than a factory option though.

For that sort of price wouldn't it be worth going to a GTi?

Depends on why he wants a GT I guess. I had my choice of both GTi and GT when I was buying new as they were actually similar in price and chose the GT because I loved that high torque diesel and the fact that i was getting GTi like performance and burning only 6l/100kms. The bullet proof engine, long life expectancy and rarity was also a bonus. I saw zero reasons for choosing the GTi over the GT for what I wanted out of it. I suspect Alphamac has his reasons too.

Fair call. Economy always plays a big part. To be honest I didn't realise the GT was diesel. My head was in MKVI mode I suppose

You can always spread a rumour that he is stealing from the workplace and eating people's lunch in the fridge

The GT came in petrol version too in the MkV's, with a twin charged 1.4l but in this case the original car he was looking at was a 2.0L diesel.
MKVI's version of the GT is the GTD which is only a diesel and there are no MkVI petrol GT's.
