  • Help - Whats the best place to buy replacement tires for Golf GTI

    Hi ,

Can anyone help me find the best place to buy 225/40/18 for the golf.
Currently have Pirelli Pzero rossa on it but not worried about staying to pirelli brand.
Any help would be appreciated. I am on Sydney north shore

    cheers

    chris

I get good service & prices from Tempe Tyres. The tyres are usually parallel imports but they are recent build & first quality. Michelin PS3 appear to be best bang4buck but thay have cheaper stuff. Many people don't like Tempe & they were bad news before they added all the chrome & glass extensions.

You might also look at international Tyre Traders online.

Get my alignments done at Spinning Wheel at Alexandria/Waterloo. Spinning Wheel sell tyres too but tyres never coincide with alignments for me.

Yeah if you want a good value tyre, PS3 is the go. Had them twice now

If you can line up a Goodyear 4 for price of 3 sale, get the F1 Assymmetric 2's. I have them now and they are excellent. On par with Michelin Pilot Super Sport. I'm about to get 40,000km out of them and I don't drive slow

I have PS3 and happy with them.

To save up to about $50 per tyre get 235/40/18 Only 10mm wider and a more common size.
        Prev 2008 R32 3 door DSG.
        Prev 2010 S3 Sportback Stronic.
        Now Lexus IS350 F Sport

Sent my sister to Tempe Tyres for some 235/40r18 PS3 for her EOS (no idea why stock EOS size is bigger than the Golf). $870 inc them talking her into nitrogen fill (when they are this cheap you don't mind paying for something useless).

If you make your way up Castle Hill way, I would talk to Nick (Perun) on here. Runs his own shop, very knowledgeable.
I ended up with Federal 595 RSR's for a better price than anywhere else. Very happy, big improvement.
Tempe is good for a price with a few brands, check the manufacture dates on the tyres and don't put up with any crap.

I bought some Goodyear F1 Asymmetric 2 tyres from Jax. Tyres seem to get very good review from the European mags. I got them for $239 each but in size 235/40R18.

+1 for Jax tyres. Very honest and fair dealership at St Mary's.

Buying a set of Goodyear Asymmetric 2 for my GTI. From what I've read (tyrereviews.co.uk) they're about the best on the market ATM. Getting them from TireRack (usa). Shipping adds an extra $270 but tyres dirt cheap at around 30% of the local price.

Stupid question I know but has anyone had a set of BYO tyres fitted in Brisbane and if so by whom and what was the cost for fitting, balancing etc? Frankly if I was the dealer I'd tell me where to shove my imports!

$270 sounds very cheap - as in mistake cheap. TR is usually $350-$380 for 4 but I've had mates quoted $450 for 2 tyres from there (go figure).

Fit / balance & enviro fee will be $15-$20 per tyre at most places. Jax is usually happy to take your money.

It can make you a bit grumpy to have a set of tyres at the door that were bought elsewhere but if you have a couple of fitters standing round scratching their nuts then you need the cashflow. Keep in mind it's an "all care / no responsibility" sale as well, so they haven't much to lose on the transaction.

Thanks for the info Brad. From this morning's email from sales rep Julian "total cost of shipping $269.66". I should have mentioned that's $US which makes it approx $292 for a set of 4. Maybe he's made a mistake but only time will tell.

So any JAX tyre shop will do it? Great. I take it "all care/no responsibility" means no warranties issued.
