How much did you pay for your Jetta/Golf?

Would you guys be able to provide an estimate as too how much I would be looking at for a Jetta TDi (6spd man, sunroof, bixenon, alarm) according to RRP it would be $39,860 + ORC. It will be a novated lease so i guess I can take advantage of the fleet discount.

I had another quote for $71k for a 5-door R32 with DSG, sat-nav, reversing sensors, sunroof and electric driver's seat again today. That's drive away with no fleet discount - I got told that if I get a fleet discount, they won't give me any other discount.

After hearing about people getting 3-door R32s with no options for $53k drive away, I get the feeling I'm not getting a great deal on the R32. Do I just need to push harder?

I had a quote for a 3 Door GTI in either Black Magic or Blue Graphite, manual and leather being the only option all for $45,795 on road. I simply asked the salesguy to give me an idea of what sort of price to expect.

Any idea what a 3 door GTI with the above option would roughly go for on the road as a good deal? I am thinking if I could possibly take it down to $42k on road I would sign up.. Your thoughts?

Bear in mind that mine was with fleet discount, I saved ~$9000 before I even opened my mouth. In fact, all I did after I was given a revised price when I said who I worked for and what I wanted was SOLD!

1 more day and it should be in Brisbane dock, then I have to wait for the usual crap and then have it shipped down to Sydney.

Aside from this, I have written quotes (at work) from two other dealers for ~$73k and ~$71k (both within a few dollars of the figure I've just given) for cars with exactly the same specifications, as well as the verbal (I am waiting for written confirmation) quote for $67k (all are onroad costs). All three quotes have been exclusive of any discount on the factory price, and although I suspect they may have involved a level of discounting at the dealer level, I was assured that any factory discount I could achieve through fleet pricing would be above and beyond any discounting offered to me thus far.

At this point, <your dealership> are actually the most expensive of the four dealers I've now talked to, and unless those circumstances change favourably, I will likely purchase from the dealer who offers me the best price.

Everything I've said in the email is true - I'm not out to lie to any dealer to get their business, but if they do want my money in their pockets, they'll have to work for it. I found it exceptionally odd that they quoted the metallic paint and leather interior on top of the list price for the car when they're standard features on the R32. Not to mention that I told the salesperson what price they had to beat before they quoted me, and they're over $7,000 above the price I gave them...

How?? $4995 fleet discount, $900 Dealer Delivery, and cheap rego.

Going novated, so no GST, ie. $36K cost

wanted sunroof, but not leather, and in that spec, would have waited 4 months, while in the no opt spec, will have it before the end of the month.

I paid less than $35,000 on the road for a Jetta TDI 6M with pearlescent paint, ipod and a few other bits and pieces.

Dealers have big margins on items such as the roof and lights so you should be able to get the price down much lower than the RRP.

BTW a really great car - you won't be disappointed.

I hope I can manage around 40k on the road.. I'll have to really push the sales guy, and I think atm it would be a great time to buy as even the car industry is struggling to sell because of the situation with interest rates etc..

gt has either the 1.4 turbocharged and superchared engine or a 2.0 turbo diesel (both are 125kw although they are VERY different engines) differences between gt and gti:
different engine
gti has bucketier seats
different grilles
different wheels
different steering wheels (gti one is more boy racer)
slightly different suspension dampening

aaaand thats about it really.

however if you've only got 40k to play with and cant stretch it to say 43 or 45 then you're probably restricted to a gt tsi (the 1.4). spec that up and you'll have it for eaaaasily under 40k. spec up a 5dr gti and you'll be up near 45k.

Yes. Throw it in D, it's essentially a smart and smooth auto.
