Don't really know, but it's being advertised for $32490 drive away. I guess it depends if $5000 for a 2001 Vectra is any good or not?

i got mine for 31,000 as stated earlier but it is a 1.9L. it's a TDi though. i think i got a good deal, can't seem to find anyone who can beat the price and other dealers are selling 2nd hand TDi for more than what i paid

it's an '08 compliance too, with metallic paint.

as mrx said earlier, just work out a price you want and stick to it. i went from dealer to dealer. it's tough cos there's only a handful in perth. the first guy was horrible, refused to give me a price. probably thought i couldn't buy one. so i was pissed off and went somewhere else- had a fleet discount through a friend but again, too much (32,500- excluding paint) and he wouldn't throw in 12 mth rego. so fine. i called another dealer and got put through to their rep and basically just said- i want this car, what is your best price. she gave me a price, i said, no thanks i want it for 31,500 if you can do that, i will sign today (all over the phone). i had little faith in being able to bargain with someone over the phone, so i asked for 31500. should have just went straight for what i actually wanted.

she had to call the manager etc. and came back saying OK- metallic paint, 12 mths rego, free delivery, inclusive of all govt charges, everything.

unfortunately, i then had a call from my friend who said that we might be able to get it for 31k. so i went back to the girl and said i was really sorry, i was checking out someone else (hadn't signed anything at that point). it got to the point where the manager came on the phone with me and said- what do we need to do to get you to turn back and not see this other dealer... so i said, i will sign 31k.

i still went anyway (but trust me, i was pleased with the deal already.. i wasn't going to sign at this new place) cos my friend was there. the dealer was a ***thead basically said- if you are saving on 500 for a dealer (cos he offered 31500) that is so far away instead of using us, and if you service your car with us in the future i cannot guarantee we will take care of you etc. i understand his point- we take care of our clients but he had a stinkin' attitude... basically tried to sell me a '07 plate and said that he was 'sacrificing' the possibility of selling a higher end car (probably something to do with bonus and all that) and that he didn't have to do this at all... i was just a referral from a friend blah blah.
      we walked out.
i signed for 31. am happy, car is arriving on tuesday.

so in short- know your price, be patient, be firm and don't take attitude. you know what you want (and it's reasonable), so just stick to that.

oh and i forgot to mention- my friend is a car dealer that's why he came car shopping with me

if you have friends in the industry, there appears to be a general consensus amongst dealers about giving the best deal possible.

and i don't know how true it is but the manager who sealed it at 31k said that i can't tell anyone cos they might get in trouble... but i don't know. my friend says it's all a ploy and if i go back referring friends for the same deal they wouldn't even blink an eye.

        ??? who knows....

and get your mats from tmtuning- i just did, saved AU$100. OEM Euro too.
Or if you have friends in Asia, it's about half price (OEM). I just couldn't get friends to carry them back because of luggage constraints..
and get your tint from somewhere else!

nah, they will always throw them into the deal, cost them nothing anyway.

if a deal comes down to a set of $50 mats they wont say no.

Just got my MY08 GTi 5 Door DSG, Black, Leather, Sunroof, Tint, Tank of Fuel.
            $46,100 from Barloworld VW Mascot.

Bought a car over the Inet, got a quote from CCC (Chatstwood Classic Cars), then sent e-mail to all dealers in Sydney. Barloworld returned $48,000, got it down to $46,100. Just insist on saving, they still make their money on the car it is just Dealer Delivery cost the sacrifice. Remember if it isn't the dealership of your choice then it would be someone else. On the same note, bought my wife 120i, via A1 brockers, great to deal with and saving was huge - 8000 off the best quote I have obtained.

At Barloworld talk to Peter Lee, very nice guy (still need to bargain)!

I got my brand spanker GT-Sport Tdi (DSG, Leather, Sunroof, Reverse Sensors) for 40k even. I didnt go through a dealer i went straight through inchape (the Distributers i think).... i just needed to provide a fleet letter from work and boom. I got my car through a novated lease though because i drive to work every day

I did try to go through a dealer but my dad wasnt impressed with the pushy-ness and the attitude of the dealer we went to (they shall remain nameless).

I think this is an okay price considering the sticker is 39k.

It would be better to quote the overall discount received compared to what you should have paid as the full drive away price. Dealer delivery & registration costs vary from state to state and stamp duty varies from 2% to 6.25% (on a $40k car) depending on which state you live in, so it makes a big difference.

hey mate, yeah i picked up the car in sydney. I work for a fairly large company so VW had a relationship with our fleet department. I think as long as you have fleet letter documentation inchape will be able to help you out.

Also your novated lease company may have this relationship with VW corporate, so you can get a discount. remember you also do get a GST credit when you go through the novated lease.

dealing with these guys however you dont get the whole "dealership" experience ie: haggling with the price, getting them to chuck in floor matts or tints etc.... so its all personal preference.

try this site that robert milne guy was great:
