Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

I moved your thread to a more appropriate section.

    yes, plenty have been lowered.
How much lowering and cost is all up to you.

You could get a simple 30mm spring kit from h&R, eibach, FK or similar for ~$300
you could add some more suitable struts to those springs for a bit more (cup kit)

You could get coilovers, these could lower you any where from nothing to 150mm depending on what kit you get you get and how you set them, cost could be between $300 and $2500 depending on what you get.

Or you could get air ride, height is again based on what you get and how you set it up.
THey could cost anywhere from $2000 to $5000 excluding install and engineering if you need those done.

check out lol.u.mad.bro, he is currently slammed on coilovers and 17" BBS

Keep in mind other FWD mk5 golfs are basically the same as your jetta, so expand your searches.
    Good luck

I've wanted to lower mine for a while but I'm always put off by the fact that my car always seems to scrape a particular point underneath going over speed humps or over things, very rarely with just me and a passenger in the car but often when there is two in the back or even one. Anyone idea what could be scraping? I don't really have time or resources to have a look myself and/or trust my jack that has slipped on me before. Would getting firmer springs help so I don't (sort of) bottom out?

if it sounds like plastic, don't worry about it. there are a few "fins" under the car (see below beneath rear door)

highly unlikely its a metallic sound as i'm very low and only get metallic scraping noises when the subframe hits the road or drive shafts on the subframe

          this is my car...
