Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

Dont want to do anything until i actually test drive a GT TDI - but i already think that its gonna be hard after coming out of a GTi.

    mmmmmm

Chipping it and even a few other light mods give you a very decent power increase while increasing your fuel economy (Obviously not when thrashing it though) (Chip = 200kw, + intake/exhaust = 220+kw)

However when you start to get some real power through it you'll find the limitations of it being FWD (Especially after driving an STI around)

the seats are only different on the head rests. The pedals look different.

whats exactly changed in the suspension dept ?
the roof lining is black in the GTI and grey on the GT. also the shape of seat is different, not just headrest.

not 100% sure the suspension diff, i guess spring and damper rates.

I must admit, I'd find going to FWD after AWD a tough ask.

you get more power, better seats/interior (eg s/wheel, gear knob, metal bits), alarm with motion sensor, side skirts, better suspension etc.
i'm sorry but whats this about everyone saying the gti is 5k extra. ITS NOT!!

the gti is exactly 1000$ more than the gt. the gt tdi starts at 37500 and the gti 3dr starts at 38500. thats one thousand dollaros.

Hmnn can VW really justify that? I mean, a 3dr gti in manual is a hard thing to pass up I must say!!! Good point mischa!

Yes try them all out and buy what you like. After being addicted to vtec it was hard to change (took vtec years ago as the extra 1k insurance premium years ago was too much and never regretted), but test drove gti and R32 last year and took the R32. Great car but not as hard edged as your current ride. gti and R32 both great, but are different imho, try and buy what you enjoy, you wont regret either one.

Nice car you got there mate, I've seen it around my area many times. One of the nices STi's in Perth.

White GTi with DSG would be my pick as well. Good luck and I hope you'll get a VW so we'll have one more person from Perth to join the future cruises.

i was referring to a GTI 5dr DSG with GT sport 1.4 TSI DSG. RRP.$42,290 vs $37,290.

if you compare the cheapest GT and GTI, the diff is 38,490 vs 34,990.

Not cheaper at Austral VW in Brisbane. I was quoted over $66k on the road for a 5dr R32 DSG with Bluetooth! Bluetooth is supposedly less that $1,000. And was told that there would be no discount because they are a special order!
                        08 R32 5Dr DSG...AWESOME!

Not the story I got at Hwy VW. Locked in lower stamp duty rate and they gave me discount!

Up here in QLD were have people who have no idea about roundabouts and cannot merge and a stamp duty rise as of Jan 1.
                              08 R32 5Dr DSG...AWESOME!

Well when i did the deal with Hwy VW, i didn't care about the 1% rise of duty.

it was a matter of the whether i was happy with the final figure.
