  • New here... Thinking bout a switch to a GTi

    Hi

Im sorry I dont have a VW as yet - but im seriously considering the swap to one.
I currently drive a 03 STi. ... and its a tuff decision coming from a 4wd and switching to a 2wd.. (dont wana go R32 - hate 3 door hatches!)

So I im basically after a white MY07 GTi fully optioned and DSG. Its hard finding one!

And if anyone can lead me to a "official white thread with modified GTi's" id truly appreciate it!

    anyway be nice im new

thanks. I wasnt aware the R32 or the GT came in 5 door actually... thats something else to consider! Are the GTi's and GT the same interior wise (fully optioned) ??
      what about suspension wise?

      Im from perth

Take an R32 for a test drive you might change your mind.

GT has slightly softer suspension and less supportive seats.. If you're coming from an STI you'll want to go GTI or R32.

so what are the differences between the GT and the GTi exactly?? (except for engine)

I know the R32 is much sportier - but id really like a TDI with DSG

Less thinking required... Just do it!

Lol. I'm not 100% but I believe the GTI has an upgraded interior on the GT, but IMO the GT has the nice wheels. The GTI also has upgraded suspension.

The GT is exactly that - not quite a GTI but it's still a force to be reconed with. My personal pick would be the GT diesel.

My sugestion to you would be to go and test drive the GTI first since your coming from the STI. Apples for apples you need to drive something first on the sportier end of the scale. I worry that jumping straight into the GT from the STI may turn you off because of the massive difference but there are upgrades (ECU) for the GT that will have her pulling very nice figures.

hi neighbour i've seen your car on the road, very nice, i have to admit. Those wheels suit it perfectly.
I have and R32, MK4 though, and i love it. I was thinking of getting a new GTi, but i love NA and AWD. I had a Liberty B4, which was a lot quicker than the R32, but my car is so much fun to drive, its soooo responsive, and thats what i love about it. GTis, B4s, STis, and everything elser that is turbocharged needs to be revved up in order to get some power out of it.
Take a GTi, an R32 and a GT diesel for a drive and compare them, then choose for yourself. If you can't find an R32, PM me and ill take you for a spin

Exactly why i ordered the GT Sport TDI & DSG

ey there pal thats one niiice rexxy. i think the question needs to be asked why do you want to switch? i have the GT tdi (although in manual) and its a great all round car. but thats exactly what you might not like about it, its not the brute power that you get from an sti and nor is it the sportiness you get from an r32 or the comfort you'd expect from a mercedes but its a fair portion of each. http://www.vwwatercooled.org.au/newf...ad.php?t=11062 for the write up i did a while back. the diesel is also a bit disappointing in the revs department

next cruise we should do a direct comparison between my gt and a gti out there suspension wise.

so just came back from a test drive, unfortunatly they didnt have a TDI GT available.
They gave me a standard GTi FSi Turbo with DSG, cloth trim and sun roof.

This car put a smile on my face, that DSG box is amazing. its just bang-bang-bang up and down gears, paddle shift - **** love it!
Turbo lag is non-existant - it pulls hard under 3000 - but over this range i couldnt feel any sort of turbo rush or pull - kinda dissapointed - but i guess its just very linear power.
You can tell the size of the car compared to the rex when driving - I didnt feel like i was flat footed on the road as I do with the rex (mind u rex has coilovers etc)...
Seats - where very snug - i see what u mean if u have a broad back... good luck. I fit in - but hardly room to move. Though one thing i didnt like about the seats was that u dont 'sink' into them like you do with the STi bucket seats...
Interior is exceptional. everything is solid. Even the bloody indicators seemed a mission to move lol
I only drove it around the block - so couldnt thrash it - so couldnt get to test out its handling that much - but very little body roll for a car thats sitting pretty high up.

I like the car, but i could see myself upgrading it for more power - kind of goes against what I was goin on about reducing running costs etc etc (hence why im thinking about selling the Sti)....
Dont want to do anything until i actually test drive a GT TDI - but i already think that its gonna be hard after coming out of a GTi.

                      mmmmmm

it will be hard. i thought about GT when i ordered GTI but in the end the 5k different is worth it.

you get more power, better seats/interior (eg s/wheel, gear knob, metal bits), alarm with motion sensor, side skirts, better suspension etc.

it seems to me that everything interior wise is the same between the two?

the seats are only different on the head rests. The pedals look different.

whats exactly changed in the suspension dept ?

no no no, i tried both seats, they feel completely different, i have a skinny a$$, feels like more grip with the GTI seats, the most important differences are the steering wheels, GTI got a better look with a flat bottom and air leather on both sides, plus I hate the GT's gear knob (typical Audi and VW style sideway button T-bar style auto knob), GTI and R32's gear knobs are the best look of all !!!
