Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • MkV 2.0FSI

    Hi all,

Just me posting again. I'm still on my Golf hunt, and I'm very seriously considering a Golf Sportline 2.0FSI manual. I've found GT's/GT Sport's too expensive and have found a (literally) perfect Sportline in silver. I was looking for a diesel but after driving the petrol it's perfectly adequate. My question is how reliable are the 2.0FSI engines, and what should I look for? I know they're fairly reliable, especially with a manual, but still I think it's worth asking. I'm also looking to upgrade the standard RCD300 radio into an RCD510 and I want an iPhone (whether it's USB or AUX) connection and intergrated Bluetooth, has anyone done this and what were your results like? In terms of mods, what's a common thing that people have done to their MkV's? The R32-style projector headlamp mod is something that definitely caught my eye, as did the 17" Estoril wheels that we never got here, and if at all possible, electric-folding mirrors.

    Cheers, Jake.

2.0l FSI engine (none turbo) can have some issues with EGR etc but seeing less of that now......

Just watch for the egr fault , its easy fixed if only the egr valve even easy to fix the valve it's self sometimes even the old valve is very fixable, but must be checked for catalyst material, common for cat break ups that gets spat all through the system, but yeah not so common now. Just be mindful if coupled to the auto though, the 09g must have really good history or get a manual, can't stress that enough

Agree with the auto, seen quite a few needing overhall now. Manual would be the go.....

I agree, check service history (if tiptronic auto), mine cost over $3000 to overhaul, but once done like new, still I'd rather not have had to.

            Service history !!!

Thank you for the replies guys! Fatherless One your Sportline is very nice; can't say I'll be going for the R32-cross-Jetta look but yours looks horn. Auto trannies are definitely not an option for myself in anything really; I enjoy manual too much! I found a perfect one in Sydney, made an offer and it was accepted. It's having an NRMA mechanical check tomorrow and if all goes well I should have it on Monday.
