Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • 06 Turbo Jetta Boot Struts

    Hi guys,
Just a quick question. I was wondering whether my boot struts have given up due to age. When I open the boot, the boot just pops up a little bit and then I have to manually lift it up to full height. There is a little assistance from the struts but I was wondering whether the boot is supposed to open once you hit the boot release. Anyone's Jetta open fully under its own steam?

some do some dont... best thing to do is remove the shocks and lube the crap out of the boot hinges pushing it right back to the screen and down many times then fit new shocks and it should pop all the way open... mine doesnt as the shocks are weeping and one is cracked also with the weight of boot spoiler it just clicks open... about time replaced mine also.....VDUB...

          Yeah the struts do go.

My friend has a Passat and asked me the same question last week... my response was to wash the car!

You would be supprised how much dust and dew weigh.

My Jetta will pop up like new after I wash and dry the boot... but after a week of polution and dust settling onit, it struggles maybe a 1/4 or 1/2 up. Early morning dew and the boot will only pop and not lift at all.
