Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Strange MKV GTI A/C Grinding

    Hi Guys

A couple of weeks ago I posted here showing that my car was dripping a significant amount of water for some reason and I could not work it out.

    Post link here:

I am now getting a very loud noise coming from the engine (near the altenator) that can clearly be heard in the cabin when the AC is running; however, the noise seems to come on when approx. 20~ Celcius is selected and the cooling is not running on max. If i turn it up to max the noise gets fainter but then comes back again as I turn up the heat... The noise is still present if I have the heater on. The only way to stop it is to press the ECON button... anyone have any ideas? Could this be related to the water coming from the engine bay?

    Kind Regards

The A/C compressor is in a bit of a vulnerable spot, in a frontal impact.

Maybe it took a hit in the accident, but the damage has not been obvious?

No there was no damage past the plastic support beams at the front... The radiator took no damage at all

Basically the honeycombe grill was cracked in multiple places, the fog lights pushed in one side, fallen out on the other (where the exhaust of the other car was), and the bumper cracked... the rest of the front was quite in tackt

Ignore the Yellow circle on the picture - That was for someone else's reference

      - Impact looks massive but I was only going 15km/h - This was directly after a light

      Picture's here:

Like I said in your other thread Take it to an aircon guy or take it back to the assessors or panel beater who looked at it .

Trying to diagnose faults on here is akin to doing brain surgery over the phone and with a blindfold on if you get what I mean.
