Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. • Door Locking problem

My front left door locks are starting to be temperamental and VW has confirmed that the Actuator is about to give up. Sometimes doesn't lock now.
Quote to replace is $500. Anyone else had this problem?
Any advice appreciated cheers (anyone wrecking atm?)

    It's a common problem.

The lock module ain't cheap, and it's not an easy job to replace it, as the outer door skin has to come off.

Then sourcing a cheap used part is not going to be easy - even to get it out.

it's like 10-11 screws to undo, to take the door skin off... like 5 minutes.

It's a common problem, make sure you get a guarantee on a used part if you go down that route.

ECS Tuning have the latches for under $200. Just search for the term 'door latch' on their website: OEM / Performance Parts for Audi, BMW, Mercedes Benz, Mini, Porsche & Volkswagen - ECS Tuning

Let every one know how you get on getting it fitted , Seems very cheap labor alone would be at least that ,

I need to replace my left front (passenger) door actuator as it is giving me codes:

00097 Front Passenger Central Locking (Safe) Motor - V162
00929 Locking Unit for CL Pass Side - F221

What is the correct VW/OEM part number for the Australian LF (passenger) door actuator part?

Is this the correct part from ECS?
                  Volkswagen Golf V 2.0T > Interior > Door > ES#340418 Front Door Latch - Left - 3B1837015AT

I'm cautious as North American left hand drive vehicles might be different? I've also read that Nth American MKV golf actuators don't have one of the feedback signals that the rest of the world actuators do?

What are some of the best places to source a genuine replacement part?

                  Thanks

Had this issue in dads jetta, went to the wreckers, picked up locking mechanism from a 20XXXkm jetta, came home, took door skin off, fitted the mechanism and then re-fitted the door skin, its not as big a job as everyone makes it out to be, if your slightly handy and have the tools, can be done in an hour easy, if you go and get the mechanism before hand.

Unfortunately, ours got stuck in the locked position which made it ALOT harder.

                    Good luck.

P.s. we only payed around $100 for the mechanism(if memory serves me right) from the wreckers, no issues since.

I have purchased a replacement actuator and plan to replace it this weekend. I've found plenty of details on how to remove the outer door skin to access the actuator on the net.

The only question I have is, should I disconnect the car battery before starting work on this? Firstly so that I am not hot plugging the actuator assembly on replacement and secondly to eliminate any chance of triggering the air bag sensor?
