I had a free 1500 service up here in Brissy at Austral. Just an oil check error codes etc. my GT TDI is now 4 weeks old with 6000km on the clock with no dramas at all, has used bugger all oil too. My last WRX however just smashed through the oil like you wouldnt believe over its first 5000km's which was also done in 5-6 weeks

So has any body got any suggestions on how you change the oil on a car so low to the ground without access to a hoist, I do all the oil changes on my other vehicles ( motor bike etc ) I have experience in changing oil and filters, just not on this car, at the very minimum the dealer won't change the oil & filter till 7500kmbmwrider

First schedule we were told of for our new beetle and our polo was 15000k's or one year.. i asked about a short service first up and they told me "no there isn't one"
Your choice what you do with your car. I'm saying your comments are wrong, and will post the PDF's tonight when i get home that prove your comment is not correct. There is still very good reason with imported cars to perform a 1000/1500km oil and filter change. The fact the manufacturer does not specify one does not mean there is no need for it if you want to preserve your engine as best as possible for the life of the car. I'll also give you a tip that i've never spoken to a mechanic who would not do such a change on their own car after buying it new or doing a rebuild.

My current car, a VXII Clubsport i cant get it up on ramps because of the front spoiler and its too low.
Luckily my driveway is flat at the top then it slopes down into the garage so i park the car with the front wheels right on the edge of the start of the downward slope and this gives me enough room to then get under the front to do the oil.
When i get my GT Sport i will definatley be doing a 1500k oil and filter change myself.

One suggestion for the ramps is to get some strong boards and place in front of the ramps to take the steepness out of them so the car has a longer run up I use to do this when I had my commodorebmwrider

Personally i have not seen an issue either way. I know people who have religiously had it done with cars and those who do what the dealer says and their engines are running fine.1974 1300 Beetle, 1997 Golf GL, 2003 New Beetle Cabrio, 2014 Audi A4 quattro

Its easier just to park on the drivway slope.

I changed the oil on my GTI at 7500 myself, because it was not included in the first "inspection" service.
I would never let a turbocharged engine go for 15000km without an oil change. especially a diesel, as the fuel is dirtier.07 Golf GTI 3 door, Tornado red, 6 speed Manual
Red may be the devils colour, but this car is pure heaven

Oil Samples
So, i got home about 9pm tonight and wasn't able to locate a PDF of the 1000km sample i had done. I've found the below file which should give you a heads up on what they measure. You might like to note the declining magnesium and sodium levels from 19,000km with each oil change. The magnesium, in partiuclar, is used to protect bearings and other mild alloys from corrossion prior to installation/use. The sodium levels you'd expect from Sodium Chloride - salt - or other air particulates.
Other interesting things are Chromium (a common compound used in bearing alloys; excess chromium = bearing wear), Iron (you'd expect this to be decreasing after run in), Phosphorus (this is particularly important with diesels, but can be indicative of fuel quality and burn efficiency) and Nitration; the amount of organic matter breaking down in your oil. I always ran a full synthetic in that car, so the organics were primarily combustion based from air particles and fuel.
I also just noticed the graphs go back to 04/04, which is when i got the car. Sooo... it seems i have plots for some numbers but not sodium on there. Again, look at silicon and iron. The implications of silicon in your oil is glazing on the bore/ring. Silicon is used in place of gaskets in almost all modern cars (sikaflex still contains it!)
I have a printed copy of the 1000km sample somewhere... most likely with all of the receipts from the car servicing. After a move 6 months ago and not unpacking all that crap, i'll try find it tomorrow... I'd have PDF's, but it looks like i either changed rego or EDI number twice through the process (memory like a seive) and can't lay my finger on where i filed them
