Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • mirror not tilt down on reverse ???

Isn't this a MY08 feature, my GTI is not doing this, i've already switch to "L" position, but nothing happen while I'm in reverse gear, checked the manual and there's a "mirror down" option printed on it, but going into the MFD, there's NONE appear on it as to turn this feature on, WHAT THE F*&% is going on??? can someone please guide me thru this ???

There's a thread in here on it if you search... but from that thread and my own experience:

    1. Put mirror switch in L
    2. Engage reverse gear with car running
    3. Tilt mirror down to desired 'reverse' position
    4. Leave switch in left position and reverse car
    5. When you turn the car off or exceed 15km/h in any forward gear, the mirror will return to the last position before you reversed/made the reverse adjustment

If you shift the switch out of 'L', then you'll cancel the function so it wont work. I just leave my R32 with the switch permanently in 'L' and all is good. I also read in the other thread on here that the feature *may not* work unless you have the VW reverse parking sensors fitted. My cars has reverse sensors, so i can't confirm or deny that.

THX! so step 3 is the main point, i have to tilt the mirror manually down every time i go reverse gear, and then once the car goes forward, it'll switch back to whatever original position before that ??? sounds very funny plus I don't have factory reverse sensors, so I can't confirm this either ...

No, you only need to tilt it down once, providing you LEAVE the mirror switch in 'L'. Once you have done this, every time you select reverse, the mirror will tilt down. It'll then return to it's last position before the tilt when you drive forward or turn the ignition off.

You have to have reversing sensors for this to work.
