  • Aircon just wouldn't work

It was a shocker of a hot day and to make matter worse my GTI's aircon wouldn't work.. it kept blowing out hot air. Had this problem a week ago and the aircon came back on normal after about 10 mins. But today no luck until it rained 30 mins into my trip. I thought the aircon gas ran out but then when the weather cools down it goes back to normal..

Question guys: anyone had similar experiences with their GTI's? still get nice cool air on hot 30+ deg days?

    Thanx

Mine sometimes struggles when its hot (like today was 37) but is getting on for 3 years old now so might need a regas at some point

You wouldn't think after just 3 years Air-con needs regassing...my Astra (which is what I'm replacing the GTI with, and is built in Germany by Opel) is 7 years old and still has great Air-con... This may be more of a VW thing... although I hope not, I'm buying a black GTI, and the last thing you want on a hot day is a black car with no Air-Con!

Samething happened to me about a month ago- blew hot air and then would work for a while, then happened again. Took it to the dealer to check it out and they diagnosed a faulty compressor and replaced it. Haven't had any probs since. Mine's a Mk V GTI with 15000 kms on the dial. Take it back and get it checked-that's what warranties are for!

Whenever your aircon cuts out for more than a couple of seconds, most likely it is the compressor - if it is happening to anyone take it straight back to the dealer (where under warranty of course)

Thanks Paddywagen, that's exactly the problem with mine. Will contact dealer over this.

Most of the time my air con feels cooler on 22C than 18.....
I tested it on 43 degrees just the other day.
Had it on 22 for starters than changed to 18..... Air coming out at 18 degrees felt warmer than at 22.
              Anyone with the same problem.....
Have in mind that my air con is climatic.......
something to look at next service......
