Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Would you list "bluefin" or any sort of "remap" as a feature when selling your car?

    as the title suggests..

are you more likely to get more interested parties or less when your car has been remapped ?
Do people freak out when you say its been "modded" or tuned?

Or is it a selling point that will get more people interested?

I for one can't live without the bluefin mapping in my Jetta TDI.. which is for sale now

I would probably just write the new power figures - those in the know could then ask how it was achieved.

        Nope

I've a Bluefin. If I ever sell the car I'll take the map off. See what the potential lookers are like. If they are inclined to mod then I'll offer to put the map back on as a deal clincher.

Majority of people aren't modders & don't trust 2nd hand cars. This is why they buy $11k Chery

I personally would not list that it has any type of mod, because there is a stigma with modding, people just assume the car has been thrashed and pushed past its limits, which most of the time is not true.

I have a Bluefin on my GTI and I will most likely remove it when I go to sell, also I probably wouldnt buy a car which has been tuned as its something I would rather do myself, i.e choose the tune I want and make sure its done properly.

I recently purchased a GTI and avoided modified ones, even though I have been around modified cars for a long time.

Stock is best as it doesn't alienate the general public, and if you discover that a prospective buyer who may want to mod, you can decide on whether you tell them then.

So put it back on but just don't tell them you have it.

I think it also depends on just how many mods are on the car - if its a tune with some hardware, probably best to remove the tune and flog the hardware off separately and increase your audience. If its had a lot of work done then it might get all too hard to start removing bits.. test the market and have a crack selling it as is.

In this instance with the tune only then not a big deal removing.
