exhaust warning light just came on solid yellow not flashing car drives 100% will get it scanned on monday any ideas
thanks
Hi,i had a golf a while ago and the exhaust light came on, i found the small stepper motor at the top of the motor had snapped the small plastic gear inside. It diverts the exhausts gas into the exhaust system .It was very easy to get to and i removed the top plate and i could see the plastic cog had snapped,Its located at the back of the motor on the top.Volkswagen quoted me about $900 fitted so i rand a wrecker in sydney and they had the unit on a wreck that had only done about 20,000 k's , He posted it to me for about $200 and i fitted it myself in about a hour . Easy job and reset and worked fine! Maybe you have the same issue ,i could hear it clicking with the bonnet up when starting the car?
Hope that gives you a clue alan
Oh bugger ,i just reread your post and realised you have a gti which will be turbo! See i was talking about the 2 litre fsi model. I have now got a turbo jetta and just had the same problem.I was able to reset the alarm by disconnecting the battery overnight but the fault came back.I took it in and found a small rubber diaphagm in the front of the motor which bolts on .I think it has to do with the exhaust flow .They took it out in ten minutes and replaced the rubber ,all up cost me about $150 to $200. Easy way to check see if you can remove the oil filler cap when the motor is running ,i couldnt get mine off there was vacumm there when running. Not good for the motor as the motor adjusts the mixture or timing to compensate for the broken rubber !easy fix Hope that helps alan

This sounds like a blown PCV valve. Not going to put a light on, maybe get some rough idle though.
A scan is the way forward, a light will be on for a reason.
