  • MkV Sportline 2.0TDI

    Hi all,

I'm thinking about getting a new car by the end of the year and at the top of my list is a MkV Golf Sportline 2.0TDI manual, something apparently very rare in itself and easily my favourite Golf ever made. Does anyone have this spec of Golf on here and regardless, what is there to look at with a Golf MkV? Considering I really don't like autos, a manual diesel Golf seemed quite reliable to me. I've found one online that has 140,000 km, is that too many? My parents have an Octavia RS so I know about Golf platform problems, but we have a TFSI not TDI, so I'm new to the engine.

Thanks in advance for any responses.

    Jake02.

Hey mate, I have a MkV Comfortline 2.0TDI Manual (i also am not a fan of auto). i love the car, the fuel economy is fantastic while also having more than enough grunt.

What options would you be after? mine has Sunroof and Leather and they're great but that personal preference.

if you stay with a comfortline or sportline there is DPF which is the big issue with VAG TDI's but only the MKVI and the GT model TDI have them.

The best person to talk to would be Greg (pretty sure he is a Mod here but he is one of people here with the most TDI experience, Transporter is also quite knowledgeable with diesels i believe)

as for the 140,000kms lower is always better but i think it should be ok, really depends on how it has been serviced (timing belts etc), how its been driven/treated and how your going to be traveling (how many kms your would average a year) and of course how you treat it yourself!

Just had a look at one that matches your description on carsales in Flinders NSW, dont know what he is talking about with $4000 suspension because that car is 100% stock.

Why is the sportline on top of the list? I am just curious as I cant really see much difference between a sportline and a standard 2.0tdi comfortline.

Have you considered a MKV GT 2.0TDI? the GT 2.0tdi has a lot more features then the regular Golf line including:
      • a more powerful diesel engine -125kw & 350nm which manages to wipe an entire second of the 0-100 time,
      • it has bigger brakes (straight from the GTI),
      • more sporty suspension (harder but not as hard as a GTI),
      • colour coded everything,
      • black front grill,
      • 17" wheels,
      • full MFD display,
      • different fabric seats

Finding one in a manual wont be easy, especially if you're on a tight budget, but personally I would wait for a nice GT over the regular range.

A Sportline fog lights so if you want to upgrade to a sportier front fogs always look great, Sportline also has body coloured door handles, side moldings and bumper inserts, Sportline is a good base to start with.

You also get sports seats which are great !

Sportline has lower suspension than Comfortline and Trendline and 16" wheels instead of 15".

I looked for a long time for a decent sportline, at that time prices of diesel GT's were considerably higher. If you're looking at diesel GT's just be aware of the injector/loom issues that have plagued many of them.

The golf 'pacific' was the mk5 runout model; it also had 16" wheels, fog lights, body coloured bits and the sports seats of the Sportline, so keep an eye out for them also.
MKV Golf 2.0 TDI DSG Sportline. Just nice.

Keep the GT in mind as a option too - as said previously its quiet a step up from the sportsline not that a Sportsline is a bad thing. 140,000kms on a diesel? Pffttt! Sounds like its just been run in then.
