I placed an order for GTI last week, white, DSG, bi-xenon, leather, need to wait for 16 weeks for the car to deliver, can't wait to c my baby....poor thing
In my glovebox there was the VW checklist of what they do at the dealer. I should scan it for you guys if you have never seen one. Each car is checked over reasonably thoroughly. Although i think in my case some monkey just ticked all the boxes without really taking much car. The box for the radio being tested was ticked yet my radio code wasnt entered yet!
Hi Tim, if you are able to scan and post that checklist up here, it would be really appreciated. It would help VW newbies like me ask the right questions and ensure we get an alright deal.
Cheers
Tom

Bailey78....I ordered my Jetta (Black Interior, beige leather interior) in Sept 07 and yes time has flown. My boat was meant to dock in Sydney on 17 Jan but got told by my dealer on Monday that the boat won't be here till 15 Feb.....damn it just as I got to the finish line the thing moved. Anyway I kicked up a huge stink and believe it or not they managed to find me another Jetta (Platinum Grey, Beige interior) with all the options I had wanted plus some extras (and best bit it is at same price). I am picking the car up on 20 Jan but mate, this one week seems like an absolute life time..........Droooooooool
Sounds like abit of a rollercoaster ride there! Were you able to track the cargo ship for yourself? How can there be a 1 month delay!?!?
Your new car sounds like a beaut car anyway. I have owned a black car before and swore I never would again. Amazing cars to look at when new. But they scruff up pretty easily if you don't know how to wash a car properly. (Swirl marks etc.)
After owning that car and speaking to a few car detailers, I ask the carwashers to leave the panels wet. No matter how clean a cloth is I still won't trust it. (didn't mean to sound anal then but its where most of the damage is done) I live inner city Melbourne and its abit hard to wash a car yourself.
PS 20th January pickup.....Is your dealership open on a Sunday? Thats great! I've never got my head around dealerships closing on a Sunday. Easiest shopping day for most people looking for a car.
That's not fair! - my car was on the same boat, arrived the same time, and I'm still waiting on it... I think it sometimes comes down to the dealer - I say this because I've had to chase my dealer every step of the way... It makes me laugh as I was told it takes 5 working days (1 week) to get it ready for me after they get it depending on the dealer options (which I have none) and so you'd think I'd get it sooner....but no...5 days it is...I mean surely they just have to register it and hand over the keys...what takes so long!
Sounds exactly like my experience... (the chasing part)....even when the car was being sold to me, I knew more about the product then he did. He didn't even know what an MP3 was let alone if the MY08's played them....
He even told me he just couldn't see the value equation in an R32 and couldn't understand why you wouldnt want to buy a fully loaded Calais instead....
Can i just say... my car landed 14/12/07 at Port Kembla, and i had it 28/12/07 Still too slow, IMO, but seems my dealer is pretty well connected now.
The compliance thing sounds like BS. All they have to do is screw the damn plate to it - the car has already undergone all testing before it was released to the aussie market. Patricks are very very slow and from one of the other recent threads here, it seems about 4 weeks is usual unless you've made 'prior' arrangments with your dealer.
Hi mate...sounds like you had a ripper dealership!
As much as I want my car and am hating this wait....I kinda have to be realistic and accept that xmas/boxing day/new years fell during my delivery delay. I guess I should be counting myself lucky that I work not too far from home....Otherwise I would be really spitting chips!
Was moreso just wondering if any others had already received a car that was on the same ship.
I spoke to the stock controller on Friday (11 Jan) and was told that my car was plated on 10 Jan and was ordered for delivery to the dealership. Delivery anytime between today and Wednesday. Have asked for delivery on Friday as I am going away for the weekend. Just have to make sure I vary the rpm's down the geelong highway.
He even told me he just couldn't see the value equation in an R32 and couldn't understand why you wouldnt want to buy a fully loaded Calais instead....
Thats for real too
See, at that point, i would have said "You know what, you're right! What was i thinking trying to spend (approx.)$55k with you guys? I'm off to buy a Holden, thanks for your time and pass my regards onto your manager. I'll be giving him a ring later today to also pass my thanks on for your great service and pointing me in the direction of buying from another dealer and manufacturer!". Then i would have calmly walked out to another dealer, and rung his boss later that day. If his boss was also a tool, i would have called VW. What a moron.
It took 4 days from the time i was told the car was marked for pickup until Patricks delivered it. At one stage, i was told Patricks had the car on a truck, and it was 3 days later it turned up at the dealer...
hmmmm I was lucky they already had the car I wanted with the options in stock, only bummer was that it was Oct 06 build with Jan 07 comp plate.. Dealer was very knowledgeable and helpful all done over the phone.. As mentioned I had a minor issue after delivery but that was all fixed with a free loan car. VWA really need to do more with the dealers and service though. I know MB own a few of their dealers so they can control things... Good luck enjoy the run down to Geelong.
Just had an interesting conversation with a mate of mine. He is the General Manager of a local Jeep dealership down here in Melbourne. Told me that cars get delayed for all types of reasons.....some of the interesting points he made include:
1. That plenty of cars get (minor) scratches and dents "without fail" on these ships and they all go to a panel shop (within Patricks) called "PRECAR". He told me of countless times he has placed an order for transport of a vehicle that would be delayed time and time again as it wouldn't be "pristine" enough.
2. These ships hold upward of 500 cars and first one out of the ship is usually the last one to be transported to the dealership. (ie. sits in the corner of the holding section/yard. (matter of luck I guess)
3. The compliancing excuse is an excuse to get customers off their backs.
4. Patricks closes shop for 10 (entire frickin! ) days over the xmas/new year period.
Wish the dealership would just be honest rather than spewing out the usual "compiancing" crap......
Rant over
Just thought you guys might find some of that interesting.
hopefully you get hold of yours soon... i have been in contact regarding my jetta that i've been waiting for since november... was initially told middle of Feb... then had that confirmed before xmas... now i find out its more likely sometime in march... dang.

You don't happen to be in Sydney do you? I had the same deal where my jetta was to arrive today actually (confirmed in writing pre christmas) but got told last week that it was delayed until march sometime (Ship is pacific explorer docking in Sydney on 15 February). I kicked up a huge fuss and complained and threatened to withdraw the order and do all sorts of stupid things.
One of the senior managers called me up a little later and then offerred me another Jetta, with all the options I had ordered except it was Platinum Grey and not the black that I had ordered. I took up that offer and will be picking up my car on Sunday.....Yipeeeee Yi Yeagh.......
I was a little worried and requested VIN number, etc to confirm that this was an MY08 model. Not sure where they found this car but it was an MY08 model with all the options I wanted and more....and best bit I got it at my original price
Amazing what can happen when you complain and make noise.

Hi all,i would wondering i order my GTI on 5Jan, and being told need to wait for 16 weeks, How do i know when the car is shipped if i dont have VIN no? does the dealer give out the VIN to you with this particular reason (to check where's my car is)?
i tracked there are 3 shipment possible for my car to arrive,
depart PORT ELIZABETH 18/03/2008 arrive MELBOURNE 06/04/2008
depart PORT ELIZABETH 14/04/2008 arrive MELBOURNE 02/05/2008
depart PORT ELIZABETH 20/04/2008 arrive MELBOURNE 10/05/2008
is anyone can let me know which will be a possible date? 1st and 2nd almost a month different.
I used too work for precar. in the build section, so basically, the car had been washed and de waxed, and i got it, checked all the details were correct, complianced it for that month/year. fitted things like badges and stereo decks (only for the cheap cars) and the rest just got like floor mates and stuff.... then it gets inspected and sent too the dealership. I guess there is a delay between, the paper work going through and us getting them done... at freo wharf there was 4 of us working, and basically if we did 28 cars in that day each are supervisor would let us go home. at the kewdale section (base), it was more strict and there was about 15 builders and we turned over alot of cars each day.
and ur correct about scratches. if a employ does more than two 'accidents'... dent or scratch they are fired... one guy got fired for accidently letting go of the windscreen wiper blade on a new m5... the v10 ones, and broke the windscreen, $1800 too replace. he was fired. Also if a rep comes in like from say bmw and sees u speeding or thrashing a car ur fired instantly.
and yeh we had are own painter on full time too paint any 'accidents', he did side work for porsche, so he was prity good.
It seems fast for me, being amongst it.
but i guess perth isnt as big as the east so mmmm, the process id say would be paper trail, uknow what the dealers are like.... coz places like precar wanna move the cars on as fast as they can coz theyve got new orders tommorrow............
