  • STILL waiting for this car! Grrrr

    Howdi guys,

Just wondering if any of you guys had a car on the shipment which landed in Melb on 21 December 2007.

Have been told that there have been delays with compliancing (is that a word?) and they are "hopeful" of getting it to me by the end of next week.......

Surely 4 weeks for car delivery is bordering on ridiculous!

The cargo website indicates the car was cleared through customs on December 28th 2007.

Wondering if anyone else has taken delivery of their car which was on the same shipment?

Just out of interest. How long did you guys wait for delivery?

Getting grumpy at having to wait for so long. At the same time have waited 5 months for this thing and another week won't make much difference....just felt like letting off some steam

    Cheers

Can i just say... my car landed 14/12/07 at Port Kembla, and i had it 28/12/07 Still too slow, IMO, but seems my dealer is pretty well connected now.

The compliance thing sounds like BS. All they have to do is screw the damn plate to it - the car has already undergone all testing before it was released to the aussie market. Patricks are very very slow and from one of the other recent threads here, it seems about 4 weeks is usual unless you've made 'prior' arrangments with your dealer.

its not as simple as that.

And when they get cars in. they probly have to do a couple hundred cars at a time!

^How is it not that simple? The VIN and Engine number will be available on the shipping doc's the instant the car leaves the factory. Custom clearance etc. etc. can be gained before the car lands in Australia, so why not compliance - if they lodge the paperwork?

It doesn't take even 2 weeks to get cars from other manufacturers... so why the heck does VW take so damn long? Companies like Toyota, Nissan, Mazda, Renault, Peugeot, Citroen, Kia, Hyundai can all have cars at dealers within 10 working days. Why is the process so much more 'complicated' for VW?

my car was at the dealer within 10 days. and i picked it up within 14. Which seems to be the norm. I dont see 4 days as being an issue.

It would be interesting to see the split between cars that are presold with each shipment and cars just for "stock". perhaps the way VW does business is their downfall

                    ^Likewise.

Maybe you're right and it is the presale Vs stock thing. They choose not to compliance the car until it's sold Still, Bailey's car was an order... perhaps it's even just a stuff up and the numbers on the paperwork don't match the car = new compliance plate??

Mah - i'd be asking the dealer for a loan car so you get to sample some of the rest of the VW family while you're waiting. It'll make you love your R that little bit more Oh, just avoid a GTI loaner. Too close to call.

That's not fair! - my car was on the same boat, arrived the same time, and I'm still waiting on it... I think it sometimes comes down to the dealer - I say this because I've had to chase my dealer every step of the way... It makes me laugh as I was told it takes 5 working days (1 week) to get it ready for me after they get it depending on the dealer options (which I have none) and so you'd think I'd get it sooner....but no...5 days it is...I mean surely they just have to register it and hand over the keys...what takes so long!

they didnt register my car until i turned up to pick it up with the cheque. So nope its not that. It was just a 5 minute thing where they faxed the form to vicroads and screwed the plates to the car

In my glovebox there was the VW checklist of what they do at the dealer. I should scan it for you guys if you have never seen one. Each car is checked over reasonably thoroughly. Although i think in my case some monkey just ticked all the boxes without really taking much car. The box for the radio being tested was ticked yet my radio code wasnt entered yet!

I ordered my R32 early November and it wasn't until December 17 that they could allocate a car to me. It's on the ship now should be going through South Africa around the 19th of Jan and should land in Brissy around the 10th of Feb. From there it's anyone's guess who long it take until I get it. The dealer, Hwy VW Bris, say that it takes 10 days for them to get the car. Another 4 or 5 days preparation and I might get it before the end of Feb. As someone said previously the wait will seem like nothing when you've gotten your baby!
                          08 R32 5Dr DSG...AWESOME!

Bailey78....I ordered my Jetta (Black Interior, beige leather interior) in Sept 07 and yes time has flown. My boat was meant to dock in Sydney on 17 Jan but got told by my dealer on Monday that the boat won't be here till 15 Feb.....damn it just as I got to the finish line the thing moved. Anyway I kicked up a huge stink and believe it or not they managed to find me another Jetta (Platinum Grey, Beige interior) with all the options I had wanted plus some extras (and best bit it is at same price). I am picking the car up on 20 Jan but mate, this one week seems like an absolute life time..........Droooooooool
