Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

      Small update: New wheels !!!

I just need to find the correct size wheel nut caps, the caps from my deniers are too large for the Tallies bolt holes, any help would be welcome

Looks great, Fatherless One. You and Poyta are really making me want to start on my GT. I have some great plans but I seems to keep running in to other things to do. In no particular order I am thinking of:

        1. GTI sills
        2. LED exterior lights
        3. GTI/R32 steering wheel
        4. APR/Forge twintake air intake
        5. APR stage 1 tune
        6. Toying with an intercooler upgrade but it's a tricky job to do by the looks of things but it would certainly help the car in the Brisbane summer!

I also need to take a look at the driver's seat as one of the lumbar support motors has died meaning I only have adjustment in 1 direction.

I've only had the windows tinted and fitted a new head unit and reversing camera so far. I've also started the transition to better tyres with a pair of Michelin PS3. Now I just need to wear out the other pair of Conti's and I'll be happy. I also have a new full leather gearbox gaiter on its way to replace the worn out one.

One day I will get through my wish list.
        MY08 Mk5 GT Sport - sold
        MY14 Tiguan 118TSI - sold (Mazda3 SP25GT in its place)
MY16 Golf 7R: sold (Caterham Super 7 and Hyundai i30N in its place)

          Good luck Mattlock,

Just put a plan in place (as you have) and work towards it.

It's not as expensive (or daunting) as you'd think.

          Just do it mate

Small update: New (Audi) Shifter ...

I've always felt the standard T bar shifter knob looks cheap so this new mod is simple and tasteful.

Here's the original shifter and surround:

            And now the new:

The perforated knob trim matches the GTI steering wheel perfectly.

A big thank you to "Buckets" for the info on this mod, thanks mate

To remove the T bar pull the button as far out as you can and pull the handle up, you need to be in neutral, The shifter surround just lifts out very easily, but you'll need to unplug a wiring connector, all easy to do, once apart you'll work out the rest.

You're welcome Alan. Heating and twisting the shifter shaft just frightened the bejesus out of me and this is a little different to what everyone else was doing.

What exhaust did they do for you or did they just change the back muffler?
