  • Guys Need Help Please

Hello Peoples, got a question. I ordered a Jetta TFSi back in Sep 07 which was to be delivered to me end of this month. When I checked with the dealer (Barloworld FiveDock) today they told me that the ship was delayed and not due in till end Feb now hence car may not be ready till mid-late March. I was very disappointed and ready to pull the order when the lady came back and said she had another Jetta TFSi which was available in Platinum Grey with all the options I had ordered bar the Factory fitted alarm system.

My question is has anyone got an aftermarket alarm fitted to their Golf or Jetta and is it much different to the factory fitted alarm system?

Should I go with the Dealer fitted alarm or should I find another installer to do the job. I was told that Volkswagen dealerships use Repeller alarms.

Any advice from the forum would be really appreciated.

I am making my decision tomorrow morning as if I go with the Platinum Grey car I can have it next weekend.

    Thanks in Advance.

    Tom

Can I ask the question - what if you had no alarm at all?

Only reason I ask is that these days the cars have pretty good security with immobiliser etc, and so what does the alarm do that's extra? Does it just make a loud sound, or is there some other functionality? I've had all my previous cars with an alarm, and when I did have someone break into my car, it was to grab something off the back seat, and they were gone before I realised the alarm was going off...

    Just my two cents...

now thats a very good question. and you raise a very valid point. why have an alarm? i guess the engine immobiliser is standard via the key. you've solved my problem. Thanks for that.

Yippeeee I now can prepare my self for the hunter valley next weekend....thats where I am taking the car for my first drive.

i personally don't see the need for alarm in modern cars. if someone wants your car bad enough they will get it. especially VW has deadlock and stuff.

I'm with the others re alarms, why bother? My only question would be where is this car coming from, is it old stock, when was it complianced etc?

              Cheers

would be wise to check the actual car before you agree. Dealer told me mine was 07, it was ie re the compliance plate, but the build was Oct 06...

                  Welcome to VWwA Thomas

I'll put my 2cents in and say alrams are annoying and no one takes too much notice unless its on longer than say 5 minutes by that time thieves have got everything.

Working in a Service Station with a Workshop you find out how annoying the alarms are.

That all said if you want it buy it (also I'd wait for genuine because IIRC it has interior monitoring standard)

                  Good Luck with purchase

thanks for all the feedback guys.....after much debating the dealer was going to put the alarm system in for nothing so I did not complain too much.....I took it. So sorry if annoy you all with false alarms

I did double check that the car was an MY08.....they could not get me a build date but told me it was Q4 2007. I shall check this with them tomorrow again. I remember one of these threads mentioned something about MY08 models having a certain series of model numbers. I shall try and find that thread and match up my model number.

With all the stuffing around I have had with the dealerships I am scared that I will get a lemon or something different to what I had ordered. However I am glad that my experience is not too dissimilar to the service that others are getting from Volkswagen.

If you have the full VIN number, use this site to decode:

I'd take the alarm, won't stop most people, but it may get you some attention (I always look when an alarm goes off) or just hasten up the so and so. Also, would it change insurance with ot without the alarm?
