Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Ripped off at the Bowser ?

I filled the Golf the other day ,it showed I had 100km to empty seeing it is a 55litre tank I expected to only put in 50 litres max,Some how 52 went in and it would of taken more but I stopped ,I also filled a 20litre container which took 21.3 litres to fill, can a 20litre take that much ?
I know the book states its a 55 litre tank but is that true ??

It may only be to the recommended full level.

Also, my tank is 65L but i can get close to that in with 50km left, i don't think they include the filler tube all the way up to the exit....

The trip computer figures are calculated estimates based on current driving statistics - it doesn't actually measure the quantity of fuel remaining in the tank.

Of course, that doesn't eliminate the possibility of a fuel bowser in need of recalibration, but the trip computer in itself is not really a smoking gun.

Yes you can get 22 litres in a plastic fuel can.

I do regularly even at different pumps so they must be giving the same amount.

However you have to be very careful when emptying it if it doesnt have a long spout on it as it will spill much easier.

I put 24.91 litres into a 20litre can all the time.
It means I have no room for expansion. leave it in the sun and I would expect it to pop the cap and leak out. Can be a pain to pour out also.

I know it's always better if one stays optimistic, and you don't want think that they're ripping us of on fuel? But the reality is, they do, and it's as much as 50ml per litre. I figured out which servos in my area to void and I never buy from them.

                That's pretty sneaky.

How did you determine a fuel bowser was short changing you 0.05 L for every litre?

                Did you alert the servo?
