  • Bulbs out, no bulb error on dash?

Thought I'd post this issue here too.

OK, I have a MKV R32 with OEM HIDs

    So far I've:
    Installed new signal indicator bulbs
    Installed new parker bulbs
Checked both 40A fuses, appears to be okay
Multimeter check for voltage at sockets - 0.4V huh why??
Checked: hazard and indicator stalk exhibit same problem. Dipped and high beam, all other external lights OK.

    Faulty:
    LHS parker bulb
    RHS turn signal

    Working:
    LHS turn signal
    RHS parker

Remove either of the working bulbs, it throws a bulb error
Remove either of the faulty bulbs, it doesn't throw a bulb error, functions just as before

I'm thinking it could be grounding of wires somewhere?
Could it be an internal fault in the CECM?
What will a scan reveal if there's an internal fault? Everything's okay?

Any ideas of what might be up? Anybody have a spare CECM and VCDS lying around for me to install and check? lol. Thanks.

i think i may have seen an issue like this before and it was a fuse. The lights had really weird behaviour.

Hey mate. How did you fix it with fuses? Was it the two 40A ones related to headlights or something else seemingly unrelated? Visual inspection seems ok.

there was a fuse missing, vehicle had just had accident repair.

Was that on a MK5 or something similar? These cars have complicated electronics in them for sure.

Looking at the fuse box map on the user manual, it seems like all external lighting goes through two 40A fuses on the MK5 R32. They both appear fine and swapping them around didn't make a difference.

Maybe I should buy a large box of various fuses to stick in all the empty slots and see if it works.....

Bit of an update for future reference.

CECM module is faulty - tested relays, wiring and bulbs. No signal output from CECM. Part number is 3C8937049AC. Current part is 3C0937049E, which is not the correct one for the Aust. delivered MKV R32. Previous owner must have changed it?!

Ordered new module online, since the dealer wanted $1255 for the part inc. fitting!!!

Might've been swapped from another car previously to rectify another issue, and left in there.

Fruther update - purchased new module from psituning in the UK, for about $250 inc and arrived last Friday.

I pulled out the control module, moved the relays over and plugged it back in. Re-coded everything in VCDS and now works perfectly. Took about 2 hrs, including taking screenshots of the old settings, which took the most time!! Indicator and parker lights all working fine now.

Also gained some extra functions like ambient footwell lights, and now- lights and sounds menu.

Put an axe through the old one, and is now in the bin.

                VW fix...$1255
                DIY fix....$250

                Very happy man.
