Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Advice on Best Performance Chip?

Hi, I am looking at chipping my MK5 GTI but need advice on which chip/company is best.
    I have looked at--
APR (this seems to be what everyone is talking about)
Veizu (which is advertised on here)
    Oettinger
does anyone have these chip that can tell me the pros and cons (hopefully there are no cons)??

Custom code is another alternative, Gav (h100vw) is a frequent forum member and regularly attends our get togethers.
This sort of thing has been covered so many times before though so maybe search in the tuning and performance section or see what is included (i believe APR has the switching, lockout and valet functions etc)

Phase 1 Custom-Code tune is $799, this is for a basically standard car. Phase 2 is $899 if you have a downpipe and other mods.

There's no miracles with tuning, so the differences are down to features, where APR would win at a price.

Whether you need to be able to go back to standard power is that consideration.

Viezu and Superchips/Bluefin have a flashloader to do that. I think GIAC may do as well.

        There's also DNA as well.

With any tune, the car has to be in top condition to start with. You can't tune a car that's got worn plugs, dead coilpacks, blown diverter valves and leaking PCV systems. So all that needs to be checked out first. make sure that's all good.

I can't stress this any more - it's important to not waste time and money diagnosing even the smallest issue. The problem is a tune can exacerbate a small issue or cause a failing part to fail - make sure everything is OK beforehand.

PS Gavin is highly recommended for his work and personal help - literally moved mountains for me :0)

            Shoot him a pm !
