  • can turn on headunit w/o key in ???

this is funny! w/o even having my car key in the ignition at all, i can just turn on the headunit, is this a fault? never have this on any other cars i have before, what if you done that and leave it on overnite, the battery will drain dead, isn't it? can i config this to be on only with my key in?

All late VW/Audis do it - I believe it will turn it off after one hour to save your battery tho

well this is common to many euro cars.

i don't think you can config it to be on with key only unless you redo your wiring.

yup, common with europeans, and it does turn off after a while (1 hour i think)

Actually now that I think of it - AU/BA/BF falcons all do this too.

It's so yo can take your key, but leave someone the radio (I guess).

Though, be careful if you remotely lock the car as the passenger can listen to the radio but not open the car.

this was true on my 99 Vectra as well. The head unit can be operated for an hour without the ignition being on and then it will cut out automatically. You can then restart again if you really want to.....

To be an echo, yep, most Euros do this. My old Land Rover Freelander used to have it as well (it'd say "1 Hour" on the display too).
