  • Golf MKV GTI Headlight Problem

    Hey Guys

I have a GTI that originally came with VW Halogen Headlights (http://www.my-gti.com/wp-content/upl..._black_gti.jpg)

I proceeded to purchase a HID kit and such purchased after market Hella Projector housings that came with H7 Bulbs (here: Home Page > ES#6476 > Notify Projector Halogen Headlights - 1EL009476011-021)

Now, I was recently involved in a crash and the repairer's have attempted to re-order these from VW; however, VW say they do not exist - they only have the halogen housings and the full Bi-Xenon housings with the Ballasts that they can provide. My car is not wired for Factory Xenon so I assume that these houseings will not work? Could they install these and then I simply take out the factory bulbs and put in mine again? (Are the holders the same as in the Halogen Headlights?)

Does anyone have a picture of the inside of a Original VW Bi-Xenon? Or can this be retrofitted into a non Xenon GTI?

Can anyone provide me with infomation on what I could do? I cannot re-order the Hella ones as the replacements (due to insurance) have to come from VW...

    Cheers!

    Remi

They will NOT be legally allowed to install Bi-Xenons if you did not have them factory installed - No auto-leveling system OR headlight washing system on your car.
Insurance probably will not pay for the $3000 Bi-Xenon headlights vs $600 halogen headlights.

Yes you can connect up OEM VW Bi-Xenon to your car with a 12-10 pin adapter plug... but you WILL not have ANY leveling capabilities other than Manual with an allen key with the bonnet up - if you have driver electric rheostat leveling it is not compatible (Halogen is 3 wire leveling, Bi-Xenon is 4 wire levelling)

Best option is to Take a Money value for VW replacement halogen headlights - and use this to order your Hella Mk5 Halogen Projectors from Overseas. If insurance say they cannot release your car without installing any headlights - use your old ones till the projector ones come in.

Sorry for the OT but I'm looking at the same projector headlights, how have you found the look, quality and operation (levelling motors?)

I agree with Gigitt, take a payment and re-order another set of projectors.

Update: The insurance company have agreed and are happy to provide me with the money to re-order them. So i will do that and order them striaght to the repairer to install.

Mate, they are fantastic, work 100% with the leveling in the car etc.. - I ordered mine from a guy in germany who sent them accross DHL to aus for all up $430! Great deal!
