  • Jetta TDI lowering

Hi all I have done a search but cant really find what I was looking for. I have a TDI jetta MK5 with 135000 ks. I am wanting to lower it around the 30mm mark yet keep the ride close to stock levels. Im on a bit of a tight budget so I wondering what you guys would recommend and where in Australia or elsewhere I should order it from. All the sites I can find in Aus all have costs of 1500 plus. I am not wanting to spend that much.

Also how do you guys go with tyre ware? are camber kits needed?

Is something like this ok or is it too cheep to be any good?

If you want to do it right and safely it will cost you up to $1500.
I 'personally' dont see much benefit in doing it anyway.

30mm would be pretty much putting Golf GTI springs in, wouldn't it?

Plenty of used sets of them floating around cheap.

Wouldn't work - TDI engine is far heavier than the GTi engine so if you put those springs in the TDI Jetta it will drop like a b$tch and the ride will suffer. You would need to get dedicated TDi springs. Lots to choose from and you can get them for around the $500 mark but there is no chance you will get a ride close to stock levels. The only way you're going to get that would be with proper coil-overs. Judging by the price of those ebay coil-overs I doubt they are "proper". You would really need to spend close to that $1500 price to get something decent, having said that you might want to check these out in the For Sale section

          Have a look at this

JOM - Main page » Catalogue » Lowering » JOM BlueLine » Volkswagen » Jetta

They are apparently German made, pricing is affordable too. But I am not sure of the ride quality, and not sure if they are 'proper' like Poyta said.

if you are only going to lower 30mm I wouldn't worry about uneven tyre wear.

Thanks everyone for the replys, the ones you posted poyta look good but probably to expensive by the time there posted to vic. The German made one might be ok to baboo, but Id have to find out more before about them I guess. How about these looks like the shocks are koni. Not sure if they diliver to aus though.

They are advertised as $950 shipped but they seem to have been for sale for quite a while so you can always make him an offer if its still too much for you. As longs as they fit your Jetta and have the ideal spring rates I'd say they are a pretty good deal, especially considering you can adjust the dampening. Cheapest quality coil-overs I've seen for a TDi are the FK StreetLines. You can get a set from ECS tuning delivered for about $800 but they have fixed dampening so I'd pay the extra $100-$150 and get the Silvers Neo-max's over those. Pretty sure any other quality coil-over will cost you over $1000.

The Cup Kit will have a stiffer ride.

I have a Cup Kit on my MK2 and it handles better, is 35mm lower but has a stiff ride.

Can I suggest KW Street Comfort?

They are designed to be grandpa smooth while being able to drop. For people who want the look but no extra handling.

You will have to pay. My V3's cost me $3k installed, but they are worth EVERY cent. They make good stuff.

If you are just after springs, we now have VWR ones specific to the Jetta:

APR - High Performance Development for Audi, VW and Porsche Vehicles.

Of course we also have several levels of coilovers to (and sway bars / control arms)

I run JOM Bluelines and I'm low with them, perches out in the rear and they still ride quite nicely
I paid $400 delivered and was best bag for buck mod

MK5_TDI are they coilovers or just springs? do you have a link on where I can buy them.

                        cheers

Yeah coilovers, no damper just height adjustable. So the lower you go the stiffer they are. But it's not that harsh even being really low

could have bought them from here, can't remember exactly now as it's been a year since I bought them
VW Golf 5 1K JOM Gewindefahrwerk Fahrwerk 1.9 2.0 TDi Tieferlegung Sportfahrwerk | eBay

should be $400-$450 delivered max, you may be able to get them cheaper from JOM directly at JOM Auto-Tuning, Autozubehör- und Tuning-Shop, Endschalldämpfer, Rückleuchten und vieles mehr
I've bought a few things from them and they are very easy to deal with and helpful

Only one thing to do with JOM is red lock tight the threads before you install them, plenty of DIY on the UK golf forums, and it's really easy to do. Otherwise they can make knocking noises if you don't. I did mine and 1 year driving no noises whatsoever

Same part for the GTI as well as the TDI? Is the difference in engine weight negligible?

Personally, I have Pirelli GTI suspension in my 2.0TDI golf. I think it's 35mm lower than standard (normal GTI is 15mm lower, and the Pirelli 20mm lower again... or maybe it's the other way around...)

Ride is good albeit a little harsher than what it came with from the factory. Seems to take corners better. Still understeers a bit... A bigger rear bar might help that though.
