  • Warranty on replacement Mechatronics?

Father in law had a DSG Mechatronics failure on his Golf just before the 3 year car warranty ran out - It has failed again within about 7 months but the car is now well out of warranty - Surely this issue would still be covered under some kind of parts warranty considering that the replacement Mechatronic isn't even a year old!

I'm fairly certain a replaced mechatronics will have an extended warranty, similar to the injectors on the GT diesel - if your dealer is being coy about it just ask VW direct.

When I had my DSG replaced I was given an extra 2 years warranty on top of the remaining warranty,i'm sure your inlaw has a good case for a replacement as its only 7 month old ,tell the dealer your going to consumer affairs as the part was not of merchantable quality.

Seems it wasn't the mechatronics that was replaced 7 months ago, it was the clutch pack so there's no 2 year parts warranty and no 3 year car warranty left....... Good news however - I just heard that the Mechatronics have been replaced free of charge as good will!!! Nice to hear that VW has come to the party - if my father in law had to pay the $4500 replacement cost so close to the warranty expiration date he would have kicked up the biggest stink about VW reliability.

Can I ask if it was dealer serviced?

Clutch packs fall under wear and tear. Mechatronics fall under 3 (or 5) year new car warranty & if replaced, the VW parts have a 2 year warranty

The guidelines to that extended warranty were for vehicles 2009 or newer, which rules out most MK5's..

Anyway I would contact VW Australia, given the age of the part and recent issues you've had, I would be very surprised if they didn't cover it under good will.

Its an Mk6 actually and as I already said in this thread earlier it was covered under good will and yes Dutch77 it was always dealer serviced at the same dealership all its life. Its part of the reason why I continue to get mine serviced at the dealer - in case something goes wrong with mine there's always a better chance of getting goodwill.
