Problems with my GTI

I'm driving a 2008 GTI. Ran over 49k. it was all good for the first 3 months but the pick up has eventually went down. Feel like the car is trying hard to move initially. On the highway when I go over 100 it shaking a bit. I checked the tyre pressure. I was all good. Not sure what went wrong.

Now I started smelling something strange when I get into the car as if I left some food. and slowly the exhaust warning has come up on the dashboard. Did anyone experience this?

The interior smell is likely the cabin air filter.
It is located behind the glove box and is accessed via the passenger footwell.

You can take it out and give it a brush/whack to get some of the leaves and gunk out which seems to help with the smell.
There are replacements form ebay for $20 landed.
They probably should be replaced once per year.
