  • GTI Stuttering in 5th and 6th

    Hi guys, me again.

Had my Mechatronics replaced quite recently and was on the Eastern today accelerating away in 5th Gear and the car began to stutter a few times and then continue on its merry way. Accelerated around a person in 6th on the Freeway and the same thing happened. 2 - 3 stutters and then it continued on.

I've booked it in at Barloworld today for a test drive and if it is the gearbox it'll be covered by warranty.

Anyone have any experience with this happening at all?

Could be so many other things - hopefully it will happen during the test-drive - even then its a guessing game. Could be fuel related, airflow meter, injectors....list goes on really.

Just grabbed a VCDS scan and got a Boost Pressure Control Valve Mechanical Failure.

Not sure of that's the coil pack, diverter valve or a sensor failure.

I hit up Tim at DA and got a new Diverter Valve and the issue seems to have mainly disappeared apart from some jerking when the engine is laboring. I'll book it into VW for a full check when I have the chance.

This was the way to go.

Changing the DV is what they say to do.

Clear the codes and see if anything comes back. Could be the wiring too but knowing that the DVs are crapola and you say it's much better now. I imagine that the old one was the original diaphragm type and the new one is a piston style.

I wonder if the ECU tried to pull back some boost and recognised that although it sent the signal, with the busted DV it saw no change and flagged it.

Now that's fixed, possibly there's another issue being highlighted.

Thanks Gavin, I'm going to get my Coil Pack's checked out. I'm getting a lot of information on it and it's pointing towards them being the rest of the problem. Supposedly some of the MkV GTI's were recalled for Coil Packs a while ago. I went to VW today and prodded at the issue and they said they'd have a look and replace them when I book the car in.
